Has anyone seen a better quality and historically accurate movie regarding Hitler in
his Berlin Bunker other than the movie "Downfall" ????? ^&confuse

I really "enjoyed" Downfall. I've watched it several times. The Russians made a Berlin film but I haven't seen it.

If you like, there are two great movies on the last days of Hitler.

The Last Ten Days W/ Sir Alec Guiness. Another one is The Bunker W/ Sir Anthony Hopkins. If you haven't seen these, you must add these to your must see list.

I was very impressed by the movie "Downfall" and think that the actor Bruno Ganz, who played Adolf Hitler, did an excellent job. I was not aware of the other two you mention here above and will definetely have a look at them.
Thanks for the post.

I watched part of the Anthony Hopkins version "Bunker" the other day. I think the
movie "Downfall" has this one beat twice over !!! :salute::

Nothing comes close to DOWNFALL. :salute::

One of the best war movies I've ever seen. %^V

Downfall is simply the best. The Russian film in English is called The Fall of Berlin. It was made in 1949 and goes for 151 minutes. You can buy a copy of the restored film with English subtitles from IHF in Chicago for US$29.95. This is Soviet propaganda at its best - its accuracy is...............

Untergang (Downfall) is simply superb. Bruno Ganz's performance as Hitler is amazing. In fact all the characters were well cast and portrayed.

If memory serves this movie was filmed in St. Petersburg as the architecture was simlar to Berlin at the time.

Apart from a superb cast downfall at least went for historical accuracy not only from Traudle's book but on uniforms and decorations. Nothing worse IMO when poor uniforms etc are used.

Have to say Hopkins role as Hitler was good remembering when it was done.

The scene in Downfall where Frau Goebbels murders her children is one of the most disturbing things I've seen on film. It is a very good movie.

Two humorous asides on Downfall are that tyrant as he was, he was still a considerate boss to his secretaries and one reviewer found that at times during the film he said "aw..poor Hitler."

Yes I agree, Hitler valued his secretaries very much. The Goebbels killing their 6 kids
was just plain ridiculous. They could have at least got them back to American lines and turned over there !!!

Don't you think that would look like double standard after what the Germans done to the Jews ? to them there was no life after the end of the Nazi party & the end of the war & thought it showed that very well

The best thing about this film was that it was not made at Pinewood Studios or on the Twentieth Century Fox backlot. It was made in Germany about Germans, by Germans and starring Germans. :salute::

With the Goebbels you had people who couldn't believe that there was any reason to live after Hitler. Magda Goebbels wrote to her son who was in a allied POW camp...

My beloved son! By now we have been in the Führerbunker for six days already — daddy, your six little siblings and I, for the sake of giving our national socialistic lives the only possible honorable end ... You shall know that I stayed here against daddy's will, and that even on last Sunday the Führer wanted to help me to get out. You know your mother — we have the same blood, for me there was no wavering. Our glorious idea is ruined and with it everything beautiful and marvelous that I have known in my life. The world that comes after the Führer and national socialism is not any longer worth living in and therefore I took the children with me, for they are too good for the life that would follow, and a merciful God will understand me when I will give them the salvation ... The children are wonderful ... there never is a word of complaint nor crying. The impacts are shaking the bunker. The elder kids cover the younger ones, their presence is a blessing and they are making the Führer smile once in a while. May God help that I have the strength to perform the last and hardest. We only have one goal left: loyalty to the Führer even in death. Harald, my dear son — I want to give you what I learned in life: be loyal! Loyal to yourself, loyal to the people and loyal to your country ... Be proud of us and try to keep us in dear memory ..."

Very much agree with the sentiments about this scene. Even though I knew what happens, this was extremely tough to watch. The actress playing Frau Goebbels was outstanding in portraying her agony, and cold-hearted determination. "Downfall" is a far superior film to either of the other two films mentioned, "Last Ten Days..." and "The Bunker". Caught it on cable by accident and was captivated by the whole production, acting, writing, uniforms, all of it. -- Al

Here in the U.S. the movie "Downfall" can still be found at many TARGET stores for a bargain price of $10.00. ^&grin
