Was watching some clips on youtube tonight and came across this piece of movie history:

Will be forever grateful to Ted Turner for bringing this to the screen. "Gods and Generals" was also a good film. Too bad Turner decided not to complete the trilogy. I am sure it would have been great as well...

:salute:: to Ted Turner!

Gods and Generals was awful; Fredericksburg was good in spots, Antietam and Chancellorsville were tire fires. Gods and Generals was so bad it doomed any shot of The Last Full Measure being made, which was a shame.

Gettysburg was and should have been a TV movie, but Turner was determined to bring it to the big screen.

Remember that miniseries that HBO, TNT or whoever was supposed to air about Grant's Overland campaign; that too was squashed because Gods and Generals was so bad.

Considering the number of epic WWII movies that have been made, why there haven't been more iconic ACW movies is a real head scratcher.

Glory to me is, was and always will be the best ACW movie; great battle scenes, excellent story, showed everyone the real reason the war was fought, four stars, a great movie.

Ok, carry on..................

Other than the mass cannon and musket fire, I most like how General Lee conducts himself. Cordial, calm, but decisive. He reprimands his officers, then boosts their value and abilities. Being calm and decisive under fire are traits I truly admire. Similar to Sean Connery's character in the Hunt for Red October.

I liked Stephen Lang's interpretation of George Pickett, very brash, enthusiastic, and I liked Richard Jordan's Lewis Armistead. Thought they were the best part of the movie. Never could abide the beard on Berenger (Longstreet), just didn't look right. -- Al

Yes, "Glory" was a great film. Great actors and acting!

"Gods and Generals" had it's moments. In a pond with few fish, you have to take what you can catch! ^&grin

The problem that I found with "Gods and Generals" was that they spent too much time on the Jackson character unlike the movie, "Gettysburg", which devoted a lot more time exploring many more characters. Also, they should not have used Stephen Lang to portray Jackson either since he already played Pickett in the prior film of the series.

:salute::
