Watched this once again with a more discerning eye last night. Been 10 years past and I should have stayed the evening with "My Favorite Martian".

Bad,bad flick.German Panzers? BARs? rifle grenades? M-1 Carbines? Thompson SMGs? keeping intervals in movements?(once!) Fixed Bayonets? No base(supporting )of fire for D-Day Bangalore torpedo'numbered' targets(Combat Engineers ,not grunts do this stuff) none to be seen in this debacle. One kid pumps a full 18 round clip from his Garand into an SS prison guard.(never had to stop to reload during that one man barrage).Lee Marvin musta needed the dough. He portrayed a 45 year old squad leader here. Never will wind up in my movie library. Awful.

"Battleground[no cussing allowed..a shame but...),HBOs WW2 series,Pork Chop Hill,Hamburger Hill,Black Hawk Down And Sci-Fi Battle :Los Angeles" are
some of my favorites.I do have most of the others but these are really well done.("The Wind and The Lion"is a real favorite as well.)

Enough for now ....adios!

Same opinions here. Never liked The Big Red One but grew up with and love such films as Pork Chop Hill, The Train, Battleground, and the Wind and the Lion is a particular favorite, along with Zulu. -- Al

Thumbs down for Big Red One as well. None of the sqd got promoted to even corporal during 3 and a half yrs of brutal fighting in a division that suffered horrendous casualties. Wind and the Lion is a classic, as are the others. Chris

I have rated the DDay landing scene as one of the worst scenes in war movie history. Hey look a whole 10 men on the Normandy beaches.
It even beats the Pattons used in Battle of the Bulge as german tanks. Shudder.

Battleground, love it. That's for sure, That's for dang sure.

I'm visiting your museum in Wheaton ,first week of June. The 6th would be ideal.
If you have never been to Cantigny
They will have several events on the anniversary They always do.
The museum and park is wonderful place to waste a summer day.
