This post has absolutely NOTHING to do with toy soliders. Rather this is simply shout out to all of the music afficiandos out there.....I've spent the night doing Karaoke (BLAH!!) and just generally listening to music....After an entire night of this I can't recommend enough listening to the Cranberries...

Zombie
Dreams
Linger
I'm Still Remembering

This is a short list. If you've never heard these songs, go to ITUNES and just listen to the samples and you'll be hooked.....It's just must have music...

Regards,

Matt

Och, Irish rubbish......only kidding Mick's and Paddy's...!!!
Actually, for years my wife thought the lyrics to Zombie were something about beer - cos I told her the name of the song was "Gambay".
Only someone familiar with China will get that one....
;);)....:D:D:D:D:D:D

"With their guns and their bombs and their guns and their bombs"
"Gambay, Gambay, Gambay"
"What's in your he-ad, in your he-e-ead"
"Gambay, Gambay, Gambay, Hey, Hey"

Linger's pretty good too.....
;):)

Ummm...Cheers
Harry

Good recommendation Matt; I love wailing women. I am having a hard time imagining you replacing O'Riordan on these tracks however:eek:; hopefully you stuck to "syncing".:D:D

My favourite is "Promises" - Go and You Tube it right now!
It rocks!!!
Too many other good ones as well but to name a few...

Free to Decide
Can't Be With You
How
Waltzing Back
Yeats' Grave
Salvation

Funnily enough, last time we were in the Beijing HRC, up pops wee Dolores warbling all about guns, bombs, 1916 and all that.
Missus Heid = Very Shocked

"Hally Daahleeng, that lady, she very aaagly"
"Yeah, I know, but its the Gambay Song that you like"

In a nutshell Matt/Bill, for a sheer class act, ya gotta go for the excellent Scottish band "Texas", especially their first 4 albums.

I Don't Want A Lover
Prayer For You
Put Your Arms Around Me
Blonde On Blonde
Halo

Aye-aah, I gotta listen to some of their stuff today...."Texas At The BBC" sounds like a good start.

Love the CD and Linger is a great song - really captures the late 90's

Thanks Harry I am always up for a recommendation. Honestly though from the short cuts on Itunes, I love the voices but the melody / beat does not seem to be to my taste. I must confess I am not much of a pop / dance genre fan and favor more singer / songwriters and accoustical stuff with a less dominant beat, old and new. Thus things I like tend to be more like the Cowboy Junkies, Shannon McNally, Anne McCue, Jewel, Lucinda Williams, Norah Jones, Tiff Merrit, Dave Mathews and Jimmy Buffet I would love to hear her do some Irish ballads, folk/rock or songs like those from any of the foregoing with that lead singer's voice though.;):D

I prefer the older Clannad and Enya, and of course the Pogues- Rum, Sodomy and the Lash, but I'll have to give these Cranberries a taste, even though I don't like fruit.

Uh oh....I'm listening to the Cranberries again tonight. Moderators, be alert.... Apparently they bring out the worst in me....or is it the copious amounts of alchohol that goes with them? Hmm....

Brad, relax, I'm JOKING. (well, sort of...............)

Matt,
I just saw that they have their 92-02 hits. What's an album that I should look for as a starter? Many Thanks.

That's the one you should get, most definitely. Best of 1992-2002. You will not be disappointed. Their sound (vocals) are just unique...almost haunting in a way.

Sharleen Spiteri's vocal just slay me Bill.
I think she's done an album of cover versions. I'll get back to you on that.

Why, thank you Ozdigger - I'm glad you recognise the fact, although I note your English isn't up to its usual remarkable level on this occasion.
However, may I remind you that you and I are not supposed to respond to each other on this forum given that the moderators here, indeed I believe it was the owner of the site herself, forced us onto each others mutual Ignore List.
It was just by chance that I happened to see your message while logging in with the intention of contributing to this excellent thread, so I suggest you and I ensure that we have the "remember me" box checked in the loggin area in future. That way we can happily enter into the spirit of how the moderators here wish us to conduct ourselves.

Hullo First Legion.

Lets see what we can do to get you off that Cranberries stuff.

Lemme see now;
How about this one by that brilliant 1970's British Supergroup - Bad Company

runwiththepack.jpg

Standout tracks;
Silver, Blue and Gold
Fade Away
Run With The Pack

Bit too dated? Never, but okay, lets fast-forward to the 1980's and another brilliant British band - Big Country

Okay then, prefer something a bit more up to date and laid back? Well how about this contemporary British Songbird - Duffy - Blues/Soul at its very best
