Here is one of my St Petersburg, Russia figures. This figure is 90mm. I do collect K&C Napoleonic's line, but I don't have any of the Cross & Crescent.

Welcome on board mk,

I too collect St. Petersburg miniatures, but at 54mm. (The 90mm look stunning but when so many of them can cost $3,000 to $5,000 I almost feel I'd buy historical armour and weapons at that price bracket). The K&C Crusaders and Saracens are better than their Napoleonics but I still tend to display them separately from my St Petersburg, with the Saracens being the only ones I really mix. (I find that some of the crusader cloaks etc seem a bit heavy looking in comparison to the St Petersburg miniatures, and the chain mail doesn't seem 'metallic' enough in comparison. However, they are excellent value, and - as I've said already - the Saracen figures are a perfect match).

Hey CF71,

Well, these figures I have don't cost as much as you think. They can be pricey depending on which studio you do use. The Hospitaller on the previous thread and this 90mm Teutonic Knight during the Northern Crusades were both under $1,000 each. I usually order a couple of figures at a time and get a discount because I have bought quite a bit from them over time. In fact, I might have to sell my K&C Napoleonic line to just make room for all of my knights! I also collect some of AeroArt's Crusade pieces. I have given some thought to buying some K&C The Cross and Crescent line, but I haven't made up my mind as of yet.

To me, the most fun about ordering a figure is doing the research on what you will have them paint. The heraldry, color of the horse, down to the eye color. Even when I select a model, it may take me a couple weeks or more of reading to come up with what I really want.

Here are a few more of my knights from St Petersburg:

120mm mid 13th Century before habits went from black to red. This is the Kingdom of Heaven piece by Andrea Miniatures. Even though it came painted, I wanted it changed so Niena Studios did it for me.

Hi MK,

You have some breath taking figures in your collection. They are beautiful!

I am curious what changes you wanted made in the Kingdom of Heaven figure. Do you mind sharing that information with us?

Again, your figures are wonderful!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Stunning collection - dont 90mm figures take up alot of room?

Very impressive figures though - Great work of art.

Ron

Hey Wadepat and Ron,

Yes, 90mm does take up some room for sure. I have two curios with 54mm in them. My study furniture has bookshelves and special places to display stuff. That is where my 90mm and 120mm stuff goes.

Below is a picture of the Ready to Show line piece AFP-005 from the Kingdom of Heaven movie.(Which in my opinion had almost no historical value at all) :) Anyway, I really didn't want a model of Orlando Bloom in my study and since I like models of the military orders, I had the figure shipped from Spain to Russia where I had it painted as a Hospitaller. Andrea Miniatures does offer this figure in 54mm too. I then did my research on how I wanted it painted. I choose 1250 as the year. In 1254 or 1256, I don't have my book out at the moment, the Hospitaller's changed their habits from black to red. You also may notice that the cross isn't 8 pointed. It appears the eight pointed cross didn't come into existence for the order until much later in their history. Seals of the Oxford Hospital in 1234 both show a Cross Formee' as I had painted on my figure. The 120mm figure comes with a wood base and name plate. The name plate reads "Crusader XI Century". I am having a another name plate made since the military orders were not Crusaders. I have been slack on getting that done.

If you don mind me asking - how much did that cost for the repaint?? Also how much do these figures run??

I know there are alot of members on the forum wondering those questions right now and it would be interesting to learn. Many of us only collect 54mm Figures and have a real good understanding of what it costs to keep our collections up.

These are some interesting figures - Where do you find them for your collection?

Ron

Hey Ron,

I am leaving now for Stonewall Jackson Training School and church afterwards, but this afternoon when my wife and I return, I will tell all of you how much you can expect to pay for figures like mine that I have previously posted, where I do research on heraldry outside of my tiny library, and where you can find some great models. For instance, here are some below that I just saw this morning. They are new releases. I got an email from the manufacturers and that is how I know what is available. These are 54mm and one is from Pegaso Models (Italy) and the other is from Andrea Miniatures (Spain). I think both of these will make it into my collection. I have to find out how much they cost (I sent an email out this morning to St Petersburg) and how I want them painted. They look pretty good now.

Until I return, regards.

Darrell

Great ! I think alot people will look forward to the inforamtion.

Thanks, Ron

Darrell-
Those are great figures and pictures. I've been collecting the russian figures from Aeroart for about 10 years. To the extent that you have ever found any bargains, you are doing better than me.
