The Crusades (2 Viewers)

After having another look I think they are the best crusaders I have seen to date. Simmo.

See what happens when you actually have a look ;) just imagine how impressed you would be if you bought something from First Legion . Happy collecting no matter what you choose . Gebhard

Gebhard, is the likelihood of that happening not like 40 degrees celsius in the Antarctis?

They are It's seems K&C crusaders are smaller that there WW2 range.I was hoping FL crusaders were bigger than there WW2 range.Simmo.

Yes, K&C crusaders seem quite neglected these days...

IMHO, The St Peterburg Collection have the best crusaders. But have to break the bank for them...

I agree , I have been collecting Aeroart/ St Petersburg since before there was a First Legion . I will still continue to pick some up here and there , some of their figures are just to good to miss IMO . They also produce several periods to which I have an interest Rome , Celts , Germanics ect... which Fl have yet to touch on .As the price for figures rise Aeroart now at $100.00 for a basic foot figure and a mounted figure now at around $400.00 . I feel First Legions Crusaders will prove to be a cost effective addition to any collection . The value to quality ratio one receives with First Legion is IMO the best currently on the market . I wont comment to much on the other manufacture you mention as i have only bought Auf Wiedersehen in over the past year or so. Except to say that I really don't think their figures look well when displayed together with First Legion but i do feel FL & Aeroart look rather well together . Of course this is only my opinion and should be taken as such and not call to war . There are plenty of guys who put both side by side and enjoy them both , its all a matter of taste . ;) All the best Gebhard

Hi Gebhard, very valid points indeed. Your comments are most valued.

The Russian manufacturers are really in a class of their own - especially for the medieval/crusades, ancients.

I think FL has done very well for the Naps - and they have an edge here with regards to the variety of poses, particularly for the infantries. The 92nd Highlanders look great - helped no less by an excellent review and some great pictures from fellow forumners. Except for the French Carabiners, the other cavalries are rather pedestrian in terms of poses. Othewise, the Russian Hussars and the British Light Dragoons are very good in terms of sculpting and painting. It's just me, of course - I prefer those with more action - like CS' Chasseur a Cheval.

I have always looked at the pieces AeroArt has done and really enjoyed thier work. However, I have never purchased any simply due to thier cost. With the quality of First Legion, I can now begin to build a small collection of Crusaders at substantial savings from AeroArt's prices. In my mind, First Legion has hit that elusive 'sweet spot' for collectors, creating outstanding craftmanship with really competative pricing.

I also have a preference for action poses, but with good sculpting and painting and believable expressions and positions. That limits the field somewhat. The Carabiners have all that and from the long posted photos, so will the Cuirassiers. Unfortunately you and I are not the only market and there are probably at least as many who prefer more static poses. Thus we have to wait our turns. I have a good feeling the British Heavies will be more action oriented as well. Eventually perhaps we shall get some action Hussars for the British and French, as well as for my friends here who favor the Russian, Prussian and Austrian conflicts.;)

Hi Spitfrnd,

Glad to find a fellow man-of-action ;)

I suppose the Light Dragoon officer is a subtle hint of things to come...

I certainly hope so, as I noted in my long ago review, he is great and with the Sergeant, could really go either way.;) Some French and British Hussar poses something like this would be nice

That's another great review - glad you mention because I missed it previously. I enjoy reading them and the pictures are most appreciated.

If I have my way, the NCO's horse could be a wee bit more energetic, though ;)

May the above painting become a reality for you!

WOW Bill..... That's a Great painting ...... I would love to see First Legion do those awesome Bavarian Chevau-Legers :eek:and the additional French Heavy Cavalry would be Great too .. First Legion is my only hope in getting the lesser know warriors of the Napoleonic Wars made . That's one thing you don't hear much about , but that's what got me hooked on First Legion . They cover all of the participants of a Battle not just the same old stuff that has been done over and over and yet over again. All the best Gebhard .. Hey Bill could you post that painting on your Napoleonic Painting thread it may get missed by some over here on the Crusaders Thread ;)
