The Day The Earth Stood Still (2 Viewers)

This new movie MIGHT be interesting Sci Fi, but with so many changes why did they even bother to name it after a true classic piece of cinema? I haven't seen it but some reviewers are already saying it belongs in the honey wagon.

I think that it is often the case that the re-make should not be named after the original but of course they are trying to capitalize on name recognition. I would treat them as similar but different; you really can't compare them. The original is a classic, the new one is good at some things (better of course at CGI) but not so good at others (the garbled green earth message, someone here may have liked that;):D). It certainly lacks the clear moral message of the original but entertaining in a different way.

Yo Troopers, being a big Sci-Fi fan, could not wait to see this remake of the Old Classic. VERDICT never saw such a load of nonsense come out of Hollywood for years:mad:, to say it was dreadful is an understatement:(, it was even worse than Independence Day and that was a joke. They totally lost the plot of why he came to Earth and what Gort (the robot) was about. I mean they have had sixty years to think about improving on the original, plus after all the excellent ideas from the TV series of Star Trek & Stargate, it would have been easy, but they managed to totally trash the whole message of the original. So the best three Sci-Fi movies still put out are the Original of, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, & Starman.
One day someone will make a good Sci-Fi movie, come back Spielberg we need you man.
Bernard.

Well that sounds unfortunate but FTR, I really liked Independence Day and did not care much for Starman. Close Encounters was very good; at least you didn't mention "ET", another Spielberg effort.:D Remaking any classic is a dicey game, but I am still keeping an open mind until I get around to it. Of course, all this is opinion and I doubt they could have made this bad enough to ecilpse Cloverfield for the number one bomb of the last 60 years for me.;)
