I was wondering how may of you guys are now looking at buying more Del Prado to fill out your dioramas with your King & Country Figures due to the economic downturn?

I have alway bought a few Del Prado here and there myself when it come to a more economic building Napoleonic dioramas - just wondering if others are doing this dance more ?

I did begin to collect the Del Prado range for a while, they are nice figures although the paint work was always a bit iffy on about 2 out of every 3 figures it seemed.

I have got a Private Marine on my K&C display as a casualty, I must admit I even snapped his base off to make it look more realistic as he only cost £1.99 as an introductory figure.

As there are not any figures in a 'dead' pose in the AWI range I would definately consider buying a few more of these as a cheaper substitute to put in as casualties. (He looks quite good as a dead soldier laying on his front as the redcoat is very similar and you have to look twice at to realise he is not K&C quality).

Some DelPrado are really good..specially the Napoleonic range ..i own 8 or 9 of them and i think i will increase this number by adding some others ,certainly the italian grenadier or the carinthian landwehr...

Wow funny you mention that Ron.At the weekend i ventured into the loft to bring down my Little Legion collection.Whilst there i also rescued my Del Prado collection that came with a magazine(Osprey)every month. To be honest i got most of them but gave up before the end. However some of these figures go very well with my K&C collection. Now you know i don't say this easily because i don't normally mix anything with my K&C (I like to keep my collection pure breed as it were!;)).But some of these figures are very good. There is a Panzer crewman in black uniform with pink piping that goes very well with K&C Tanks and a SS trooper in pea pattern camo also fits nicely with other stuff.I'm very surprised at the quality of these figures, some are a lot better than others but its certainly worth considering if you have some of these.

I have found the paint jobs a little iffy too - however the sculpts on these guys are really good IMHO. And you don't feel bad about touching up the paint job because of the price ! ;)

I quite agree however in my case if I went anywhere near a figure with a paint brush I would certainly diminish it instead of enhance it. :(

I am utterly useless at painting models / model making! (hence good job there are Builld-a-rama's and JG Miniatures etc)

I've been looking at Del Prado figures, as figures in their own right, regardless of issues with K&C. I've bought a couple of the samurai, and I just won an auction for this figure on eBay, a Prussian cuirassier from the Seven Years War:

I haven't been able to confirm that this is definitely by Del Prado, as it seems that many of the cavalry range are no longer listed on their website. But I am now on the hunt for more copies of this figure (or I'll break down and have a mold made, if I have to).

I agree with the others, the figures are not bad, the quality of the paint jobs can be inconsistent from one copy of a figure to the next. But I'm happy to strip the factory paint and repaint, if need be.

There are some interesting subjects in the Del Prado catalog, too. There is a line of fire fighting personnel from around the world, for example.

Definitely something for us collectors to consider, nothing to turn our noses up at.

Prosit!

I have a few issues with DP.One is their shipping and from what I hear customer service. Mostly for me it is them not shipping when they say they will. Happens a lot. Now the figures are pretty good if not packed very well. Lots of bent rifles swords, and what not. The painting is not iffy but sometimes downright poor. One has to go through quite a few to find a good one. Usually the beginning of a series is poor then gets better. So quality control is spotty at best. Now for the good side the broken ones which there are a good number , either I repair for the shop or I melt down at scrap metal prices!

I have Dragoon Officer in both KC and Del Prado

At a quick glance (in a diorama) they look very similar

I have looked at others to compliment my KC

I saw that the Del Prado were selling there figures through the Franklin Mint. They sold mostly WW II this way and they didn't sell well, so their ending this partnership. You can get 4 figure set at $30-$35 at some places. They were going for $60-$65.

Did anyone else know this?

I'm curious to check that out, do you happen to have a link for any Website? If not, it's OK, I'll do a search.

Prost!

About a year ago I began to pick up the figures that would go with my Diorama's Vietnam, Free French, Arnhem. Many of them, when you can find them are almost as nice as the regular King & Country figures!

No Brad sorry.

I found out about it from my Franklin Mint diecast planes dealer. He didn't know I collected metal soldiers to and never called me in time. Now he can only get 1 or 2 set for $30, so I told him not to bother.

You can see all the FM / DP offerings on the ...themotorpool. net... site but he's still charging the full price.

Good luck

No worries, I'll do some searching and post back what I can find.

Prost!

Wait a minute, are Oryon figures made by Del Prado?

The Franklin Mint items are Oryon

Actually, it might be a good idea for anybody who knows for sure, to review here which figures are which, and who makes them. I have thought that they might all come from the same manufacturer in China, and are just sold/marketed by different agents.

Who makes Oryon, Del Prado and Hachette figures? Anyone happen to know, off the top of his head?

I don't think Oryon figures are associated with Del Prado. Oryon is an Italian company that use to make Esci plastic kits and figures. Del Prado is a Spanish company. I never heard of a connection but maybe it is possible. Squadron Shop has 54mm three figure Oryon figures on sale often and some of the Napoleonics are nice. Also, the taller stands make them larger then 54mm. Leadmen

Thanks, Leadmen, that helps!

I had thought, for example, that all three figure lines were made in China, understanding, of course, that Del Prado itself is out of Spain, Oryon is out of Italy, and Hachette is from France. Do you happen to know if the Oryon figures themselves are produced in Italy, too, or are they designed there, but the manufacturing end is outsourced to the PRC?

Prost!

It is hard to tell what Del Prado is. They sell magazines with die cast or metal collectibles. They have stuff made for them buy the best companies in their respective business. Check out their web site.
