Read a blurb on another forum about this movie, story of the VMI cadets charge at The Battle of New Market, film has a 5 million dollar budget, which is a bit of a concern as that's not a lot of dough, hope it's not some cheesy made for TV movie, we'll see..................

I caught an interview with Jason Isaacs on the BBC awhile back who briefly mentioned this future production in which he will apparently portray John Breckinridge. The Battle of New Market would make a pretty good movie and no doubt the title is taken from the incident when the 250 VMI cadets were ordered to cross a muddy field adjacent to the Bushong's orchard. As they advanced the thick sticky mud sucked off all the kids shoes and they charged the Federals in just their bare feet. Nevertheless those cadets and Breckinridge's two infantry regiments managed to push old Franz Sigel's 10,000 Union boys right out of the Shenandoah Valley. Grant was absolutely furious that a bunch of Rebel kids had kicked Sigel's butt and he immediately replaced him with David Turner. I think Sigel ended up guarding a manure store in Harper's Ferry ^&grin

John Ford depicted a fictitious and very sanitized version of the battle in The Horse Soldiers but a more accurate version would be great but concur with you as a $5 million budget unfortunately does not bode well for a decent production.

The lack of replies does not bode well at all either, looks like if it ever makes it to the big screen, I'll be the only one going..............:rolleyes2:.......I guess if it's not a WWII movie, people don't give a rats behind..........

George, I'll be going to see it, if it ever gets made, but like you and Bob, I don't think $5million is going to cut it for a budget. The budget sounds more like a 30 second sound-bite for Ronald Macdonald. But, those kids attacking through the rain is a great story and deserves a proper effort. -- Al

Thanks for the laugh Al and you are right, talk about a "shoestring" budget.............

Well that may be true for this forum but thankfully it does not represent the general population. I know I would love to see it. I watch Gettysburg several times a year.

Strike me George that makes five of us going to buy a ticket and at five bucks a pop....Well hell!.... that's 25 greenbacks off of its budget ^&grin
