Dear Collectors,
Figarti Miniatures will be offering its new UH-1 Huey helicopters in three different paint variants.
Amidst the low brush and elephant grass of the clearing, the buzz of insects is suddenly silenced by distant whop-whop-whop sounds. Suddenly, clouds of dust drift up and the vegetation flattened as UH-1 Hueys of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) swoop down into the LZ. As the Hueys laden with troops touched down, door gunners fired machine guns to provide cover as the troopers from “The First Team” leap from their modern era “horses.” In seconds, the troops cleared the Hueys and the pilots accelerated up and away as quickly as possible to clear the LZ for other Slicks approaching the LZ. Within minutes, the Hueys had landed a troop deep into the heart of enemy territory - this was air mobility and a new era of warfare.
On 15 September 1965, the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry began combat operations in the Republic of Vietnam as the divisional air cavalry squadron for the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). Composed of aero-weapons (Reds), aero-scout (Whites), and aero-rifle (Blues), this unit participated in such pivotal battles as the Ia Drang Valley, portrayed in the movie We Were Soldiers, and the Siege of Khe Sahn. Its mission was one of an aerial reconnaissance unit which used helicopters and ground reconnaissance elements to locate enemy units and engage them from all directions. This revolutionary concept did away with conventional front line warfare that was typical in prior wars. To accompany its new Hueys, Figarti Miniatures proudly adds troopers of the 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry to its Viet Nam line. It is estimated that the 1/9 was responsible for 50 percent of all enemy soldiers killed by the 1st Cavalry Division during the war. It was for this reason that the Squadron earned the nickname "The Headhunters."
VTN-016: “UH-1 Huey Headhunters”
What the jeep was to Americans during World War II, so was the UH-1 Huey to those who fought in Viet Nam. All branches of the U. S. military operated them and they ranged to every corner of South Vietnam and into Cambodia and Laos. Inspired by the famous photo of troopers leaping from a hovering Huey bearing the name “Headhunters” and the number “39,” Figarti Miniatures proudly introduces its “UH-1 Huey Headhunters” (VTN-016). Done the “Figarti Way” with a high level of detail, Figarti’s Huey can be displayed with the two side doors mounted either in an opened or closed position, with the two side machine guns and two waist gunner figurines removable.
VTN-017: “UH-1 Huey Slick”
Capable of carrying 10 fully equipped soldiers with a crew of 4, Hueys carrying troops were nicknamed "Slicks" because they were not cluttered with externally mounted rockets or guns. Done the “Figarti Way” with a high level of detail, Figarti Miniature’s “UH-1 Huey Slick” (VTN-017) bears the motto "Death Before Dishonor" and can be displayed with the two side doors mounted either in an opened or closed position, with the two side machine guns and two waist gunner figurines removable.
VTN-022: “Marine Huey” is shown on our website.
