The ignore list (1 Viewer)

The "ignore" option that one has here on this forum is a very fine feature and useful. I am just curious if the moderators do have an option or an overview who is "ignored" by how many?

I belong to a wargaming forum and instead of ignore, it's called stifle, which is the same thing, you cannot view the posts of someone you put on stifle and when you access a persons profile page, you can see how many stifles they've got.

I'd like to see it here as well.

Hi, Russell, it's a list of members that each one of us can define in our user profiles, to flag those members whoses posts we don't care to read. Putting someone on the ignore list will hide his posts from the threads that you view.

If you go to User CP, look in the menu column at the left of the page, and you'll see a link called "Edit Ignore List". If you click that, the page will refresh with a little dialog window, with a choice the enter member names, or search for them.

Of course, if I'm on your ignore list, you won't see this....



It's useful if we were to have someone join who acted as a troll, posting comments designed to stir up trouble, or maybe always saying negative things, etc.

I haven't really seen anyone do that here, but over at FineScaleModeler, there was a fellow who did that, his posts were unnecessarily critical, and he would go out of his way to nitpick--fine line, I know, in forums like these--but he didn't really break any rules, he was just annoying. Enough people put him on the ignore list, that it took the wind out of his sails, and he went away.

The ignore list is another in a growing line of strange ideas. This is a toy soldier forum. I find it hard to believe that grown men would need to purge others to avoid being upset.
