I asked John Firth (Beating Retreat) to paint some soldiers from the Imperial Germany and I recently received four figures. John is in the process of painting several more. Unfortunately, the photos don't do John's work justice.
The first one is the Leibgendarmerie.
The bodyguard Gendarmerie (the Kaiser's) consisted of one officer and 24 men detached from the Prussian cuirassier regiment for duty in the Emperor's household. The soldiers were retained on the roles of the regiments and were usually exchanged yearly, the officer in command taking his orders from one of the Emperor's aides-de-camp. In 1889 a second platoon was raised as the Leibwache der Kaiserin und Konigin. In addition to posting dismounted guards within the palace, the Gendarmerie provided the mounted escorts which accompanied the Emperor's carriage. On these occasions it wore the same uniforms as the staff guards of the Garde-du-Corps.
I will try to post the others as time permits.
