The DAK Luftflotte is about to have some new additions thanks to Andy and his excellent team. This time the Regia Aeronautica are out in force with a SM 79 (and some interesting visitors), a Breda 65 ground attack plane and the work-horse of the DAK Luftflotte a DFS 320 assault glider.

The SM 79 is in Libyan colours and was nicknamed the "hunchback" was one of the most successful Italian planes and did great service as a torpedo bomber. The B65 was already out of date when it entered service and its shown here in Libyan colours and in a ground attack role where it did reasonable service. The DFS320 assault glider was used in a variety of roles from troop carrying to supplies and were an essential support to the DAK.

These are part of the growing DAK air force that I am building. Andy and his team have made these special one offs and I thought that you would like to see them. I am also expecting a Hs 126 and will then post some other pictures...hopefully it will also encourage Andy to make some more DAK and Italian forces. The model warbirds are outstanding I just haven't worked out how to tell my wife yet.....

Outstanding! Thanks for sharing. You don't see the N. African Italians very often. It really was a short-lived theme and they are some very nice figures.

Thanks Western Outlaw - I really do like the Italians( as well as the DAK) and they really add a dimension to the N. Africa campaign. Andy tends to release a set per year and it would be good to have some more vehicles...more to come

I think we're overdue for some DAK.

I love the "Savoia-Marchetti S.M. 79".....{sm3}

The nickname of "Gobbo", or "Gobbo Maledetto" (****ed Hunchback), was given by the British RAF pilots, who had difficulties in attacking it by the queue because of the weapon mounted on the dorsal hump and facing backwards.:p

That 3 engined I-Tie bird is a nice one, congrat's Peter and thanks for posting.

Tom

Beautiful machines and the colour scheme/camo brings back so many memories from TS kits in the 60s 70s.

Pardon my ignorance, but these are 'private commissions'? From KnC?

Thanks for the comments guys - much appreciated. These are private commissions made by Andy and his team. I am trying to build up a collection of all the German and Italian planes that fought in the N. Africa campaign to go with the DAK and Italian K and C range.

I am about half way through this and am now starting on some of the lesser known. I was especially interested in the role of Gliders like the DFS and the Gotha as a means by which the DAK did resupply. I do think even Andy though will be able to do the Gigant! Here is the other warbird with this order the Hs 126

the bomber is fabulous. does anybody know how much it is and is it sold out yet

Hello Hawkeye

The SM79 bomber was a special commission and Andy usually does make 2 or 3 when he does these so you'l need to check with him. In terms of price think over 1,000 US dollars ...still explaining this to my wife but they are all worth it
