Last night on the Smithsonian HD Channel was an interesting one hour
program on Rolls-Royce in India circa 1908-1947. It seems they were
quite the prestige item. I didn’t know it, but the engine and chassis were
all that Rolls produced. Then you had to go to a coach company for the
rest, which left much to the imagination. Some pictures of Rolls at Dehli
Durbar and WWI ambulances. Copyright for the program was 2008, but
Smithsonian was 2011. So probably shown in the UK three years ago.

Program said that 840 were expedited to India at an average cost of
£1,500 or £60,000 in today’s currency.

The only Rolls I ever rode in was from the Dorchester to Heathrow. I was
impressed.
