The Major General London District's inspection of the Household Cavalry (1 Viewer)

Martin, thanks so much for posting this.I really enjoyed it.Where else today could you actually see two battalions of mounted men on parade?I believe I have read somewhere that you actually served in one of these units,so you would know full well the amount of training that went on in preparation for this parade. The bandsmen,in particular, impressed me.To actually play an instrument{many of which require both hands} and keep the horse moving and in line is quite an achievement.Again, many thanks.

Great video! Thanks for sharing it. I enjoy watching videos of the Household troops on parade their uniforms are sharp and their drill is impeccable. I'm continually amazed by the mounted bands. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to ride a horse and play an instrument.
Cheers,
Brendan

Very interesting film of historic British regiments. Many years ago I was involved in the Colchester tattoo in which the Lifeguards mounted band was on parade. This was a full week of performances, and as usual on the last show a "little steam" was let off. The Corporal on the drum horse decided to do a "jazzed up"version of his kettledrum solo. He left the arena through the improvised castle gate to be met by an officer of his regiment and 2 military policemen . The officer took the horse and the MP's took the drummer!
I saw him again a couple of months later at the Wembley pageant - minus his badge of rank, Happy days!
