Did anybody see the figures from the Minnesota Raid eye to eye yet and what is your opinion?
With "Custer's Last Stand" there were quite a lot of comments that expressed dissapointment.
As of the available pictures the "Minnesota Raid" figures do look very good.
Any input would be appreciated.

I saw them very recently at a museum/gift shop in Northfield, MN where I currently live and was disappointed. They look very diminutive (sp?). Nice detail though. I probably won't be getting them myself. I think you'll need to take a look at them in person.

I can't understand why in the world BLACK HAWK would make this range! They should have made just a basic OLD WEST range!!

Saw them today. They have a very smallish appearance. I did like the standing Jesse James figure.

They probably like 'The Long Riders" as much as I do, the best Western movie ever made (at least in my humble opinion...)!
:D

"The Long Riders" is a real good film. The authentic music is a nice touch and the Carridines and Keachs are outstanding. -- lancer

I handled a couple of these figures at one of the London shows-as you would expect they had attracted me as had the Custer set-but as some of the guys have stated they are on the small size and dare I say a little lightweight for metal figures-in fact I asked the dealer if these were the real Mcoy as one could have thought at first they were handling resin figures.

I did like the poses on the James gang figures which are quite well sculpted-although I felt that the horses looked a little like fairground roundabout nags-but the townsfolk figures were far too static/stilted. Consequently, I came away as disappointed as I was with Autie's Last Stand which I had considered hit and miss bearing- unfortunately- more on the latter-cartoonish faces and a couple of very odd trooper poses that up close somehow just didn't look right. I had great hopes for these Black Hawk sets but after close inspection they were not for me.

As an aside I have a Brit chum with family relations in Minnesota and I told him- as he was going across one September- that he should go to Northfield around the week-end of the anniversary on the 7th as they apparently celebrated the defeat of the James gang by re-enacting the raid and shoot-out. He caught the show and brought me back reams of flyers and programmes etc after thoroughly enjoying the spectacle-but no doubt you would know more about that than me.

Finally- agree The Long Riders is one hell of a good film-but old Cliff Robertson starred in a fine effort on the same subject that has almost been forgotten except by the Western die-hards called
The Great Northfield Minnesota Bank Raid (1972) he played Cole Younger whilst the Jesse James role went to Robert Duvall-Catch it if you can I thought it quite authentic.

They have most of these figures for sale in the James gang museum/gift shop down town here in Northfield, and they do look very nice, but definitely on the smallish side. There are worse looking products on the market.

The Bank raid re-enactments that are staged throughout the anniversary weekend are a real treat to see for sure. I grew up a bit south of here, and after a decade in exile in Wisconsin we moved to back to MN and settled in Northfield last summer.

Many of you have been saying that the figures are smallish. Does this mean they are about the size of Britains' redcoat, bluecoat series or even smaller than that?

Yes, I'd say this is a pretty good comparison for size. Fairly nice looking figures for the most part too.
