Dominique Jean Larrey was a French surgeon in Napoleon's army and an important innovator in battlefield medicine. He suggested the introduction of ambulances volantes – flying ambulance. The flying ambulances were horse drawn wagons for collecting and carrying the wounded from the battlefield to base hospitals.

Hello Max,

Excellent looking piece! From what I understand, most Napoleonic carriages were painted a lighter colour, greenish-brown. This internet selection gives a broad feel. Perhaps the Imperial Guard had their carriages painted a different colour?
