The Official CGA Unveiling (1 Viewer)

I have your name changed to Leadmen. You'll need to log in with that name now.

Do most members use their forum names for user ID or make a new name? I registered under a different user ID. I don't know if that is correct or else I screwed up.

Yo Troopers, it makes good sense to use your forum name IE: any new guys looking in can see your a solid member, and a plus like Tom (tdubel) people will recognise he is a regular on ebay. It all adds to the confidence of the buyer, especially with this being a new auction site:D.
Bernard.

I can't seem to register. I keep getting an error message " Make sure highlighted message is correct", but does not highlight the item. Credit card information should be sent HttPs. Also, no tech support during non business hours.

I have e-mailed to clarify the issues.

I had no problem registering for Changing Guard Auctions.

However, I was a bit stumped by this question.

Choose a keyword: (Something to help you remember your password)

My password is so cryptic that no keyword would help.

If it were not a mandatory field, I would have skipped it.

Best Wishes, Raymond.:)

Ah, the keyword. A quirk of the software we are using. We're working towards eliminating it altogether, but didn't want to delay the launch any more than it already was.

Peter,

It is not a big deal.

Thanks, Raymond.

Don't many sites use those kinds of words, e.g., words to help you remember your password in case you forget it.

Brad,

There is usually a list of security questions (to choose one only) to verify that the user is genuine before he/she can ask for a his/her forgotten UserID/password from the webmaster.

Examples:

What is your mother's maiden name ?

What was the name of your first pet dog ?

Which was your first Beatles album ?

The questions require personalised answers that only the genuine user would know.

If the real user gets the answer correct, the webmaster will email the UserID/password.

I am not sure there is any software to handle a forgotten keyword.

Best, Raymond.

Yeah...but this site is set up so that YOU need to remember your keyword. If you remember the keyword, you probably remember the password!

I know at one site I belong I had forgotten my password and the prompt was who is a famous tenor player? and when I saw that, I said, Ok, now I remember.

The same software that you described above for a lost password. The layers of security generally track the importance of the site access in question. That is the password to discussion forums is not all that critical while the password to your bank account would seem so.

This is just a question to ponder.

Would CGA consider introducing bidder anonymity ?

Some would find it difficult to bid on an item if they knew it was bidding against a friend.

The counter argument is why make bidding surreptitious.

Why not keep it open and transparent ?

I honestly do not have the answer to this.

Raymond.:)
