The Phonetic Alphabet - Political Correctness strikes again (1 Viewer)

I can think of many terms to substitute for India as a source of PC technical support but I am afraid they would not be PC.:D

I like the way Indians speak English with the British-isms thrown in.

Some of the police / ex Police or military guys might be amused by this one.
On the radio in Brisbane yesterday it was mentioned that the Queensland Police had decided that using the word "India" in the Phonetic Alphabet was "culturally insensitive" and they are looking to find another word instead.
The radio was having a competition to find a replacement and some suggestions were Ignorant, Ignoramous and Illiegal.
It was also jokingly suggested that the Phonetic Alphabet could be put out to sponsorship so suggestions were iPhone and IKEA.
In the Toy Soldier world we could have Conte or Britains sponsoring Zulu and I guess a certain US dealer has a lock on the letter S already !!!
Just some useless trivia from Down Under.
Regards
Brett

The human race must be de-evolving as it seems to get dumber with each passing generation.:rolleyes:

Why would you say that? We're on computers...on the internet. We have hand held phones that do more and allow us to do more than Kirk's communicator. It's not stupidity to adapt to a technology and use it to work, create and have fun.

As for stupidity, we're in a world where we actually meet other people in person or by communication. It's either self interest or courtesy or empathy that we might try to see the other guy's point of view. I don't feel threatened by that myself.

I used to work in a penny candy store back in the 1960s. People were asking for these "babies" by the old name. Sometimes you have to grow.

Yes were on computers, phones and the such.Everything being done for you so you don't have to think too much. When I was a kid you wern't allowed to use calculators as they wanted you to figure it out yourself, now it's required.Kids are great on video games but ask them to go outside and make up some kind of game, most can't.We are becoming an overweight lazy species. Now getting back to people being sensitive to certain words or phrases.I know words hurt.I was an overweigt kid and I heard what some people said but I took it.I didn't run home to daddy wanting him to sue somebody.I didn't get a bunch of fat people together to march down the road demanding it be made unlawful to call someone fat. There's nothing wrong in respecting others,we all should but it's when the fanatics start that it get ridiculous.

That depends on whether you have need of a communication. Yes their accent is colorful, if indecipherable. Ours appears the same for them.

Except we don't really know what caused the Queensland Police to change the word, just that it's a story. "Strawmen" are getting set up and being knocked down in battalions these days. The term "Political Correctness isn't even a real title, just a pejorative against something one side hates.

There actually is some real information on the Phonetic Alphabet posted here. My be so quick to dismiss that?

I've worked with Indians. It's tough sometimes but many have the English language background.

As long as they don't talk like Denesh DeSouza.

Many of the ladies, even the grandmas have beautiful expressive eyes as well. But I digress.......

Yes well with the right incentive, I suppose I could overlook the accent difficulties.;):D
