Guys...

Thought I would start a premier league thread where we can all chip in and debate the pro's and con's of the best football league in the world.

Here's my very quick take on whats going on with just a few teams.

This weekend though, every week is great, shows the intensity of the PL and why its unparralled in terms of quality and why everyone apart from money wants to play here.

Moan Utd (I am no fan of them and never have been) were royally knocked of their perch by what was seen as an easy victory for them and rightly so Wolves played superb. Giggs and a few others returned to their usual petulance and lashed out or bemoaned every decision even the ones that go their way.

It was sods law that Cheatske (a reference to how many players are not content with their current girlfriends) would be beaten after the Torres transfer and, don't think he will ignite their season as much as expected.

Newcastle (I am biased) have again after another bad week in part 245 of the Newcastle soap ''Toonenders'' have magnificantly rallied and put on a record breaking comeback. We out fought and out played what I consider to be the best footballing side in the world on their day. Its the gunners achilles heel how they have not managed to learn how to kill of teams and, apart from my own joy that we did so well feel, this will badly affect confidence in a side who I would like to see win the PL.

This years league is the tightest I have seen any team can get top four from the top ten nobody is really guaranteed top spot or top four and, usually, we have by now a really good idea who will be likely to drop but, its not the case this season.

My pre season results were Arsenal to win the PL Newcastle to finish top ten (thats what I have placed £100 on at great odds) and my thoughts about thr drop were West Ham, wigan, and WBA who knows, I still may be right. I must add that I always am torn between the Mackems (sunderland our great enemy) going down and being able to royally humiliate them which, we have. they stated in their pre season paranoia that they would finish fourth bottom happily to beat us twice. They will be out of the top ten soon.

I should have started this at the start of the season but, whats done. I look forward to any involvement some banter and debate and the usual mickey taking over teams and players and clubs.

Looking forward to it and no talk of LAH. LOL

I expect Man United to win the league (despite their first defeat), just don't see any other team with the necessary consistency to beat them to the title this season.
That said, my favorite team is Liverpool, something that comes from the seventies, when the great Liverpool teams brought me to love English football. So I am very happy to see Liverpool win 4 times in a row, I hope they really are coming up and who knows one they might be back to what they used to be: THE BEST! Suarez and Carroll look like great signings for them, so the only way is up! But possibly the best «signing» might be the coach, Anfield hero Dalglish and also the new owners. Let's wait and see...

Paulo

Bit early to say but, they have something unique in Andy Carroll a big strong old fashioned english centre forward who will put his head through a wall to score a goal. He will be a real handful as he has shown against all the best defences.

I would rather have Liverpool in the top four than Spurs so, hope your right
Mitch

Handed a 4 nil halftime lead, and the stupid Gunners can't hold the lead. Unbelievable. Two points would have been nice

come on Mitch, is this 1996 again?

kidding aside that keegan team was kamikaze, fun to watch.

as for this year, Utd for the league, and its more of the other teams dropping points than Utd's superiority. once Sir, giggs and scholes retires, its gonna be hard on Utd.

and i fancy Utd for the Champions league as well, a case of liverpool 2005.
i really think utd will get lucky this year, then Sir will retire.

Ha ha!!! I did think you would have been peeved. Spoke to a couple of the gunners fans and they were distraught. Its been something that arsenal just can't do and have lost lots of points in exactly the same way.

Poor old Wenger. Fortunately for us Barts or come to think Nolan did not lamp him back and get sent off as well.

Do you think as many in the papers have commented yesterday and today that arsenal can play the game but, don't have the players for a fight. You could see their heads go down even after the first goal. Any other team would have seen it as a concilation and got on with the job. We played really well in the second half but, it was a capitulation really.

Wengers got to rally everyone and get their spirits up for whats coming

There’s an awful lot of negativity against Manchester United in this thread already, but then I see you’re a Newcastle supporter!...........never mind. :salute::

I always know each year I will get my season tickets worth. The three best games in the history of the PL involves Newcastle the two 4-3 liverpool newcastle games and now the arsenal game.

As for Utd it depends on how this effects them they were really beginning to think they were unbeatable a lot will depend on if Arsenal win the cup and how that taster galvanates the squad to push on for the title.

Perhaps we will see when Fergie goes the ''special one'' take over though, if our loon of an owner would dip into the billionnaire pockets we could see him come to us as there is nowhere else in the world where he would be treat as almost a god as newcastle should he win a cup or similar

yup, newcastle is kamikaze wacky, way before spurs took the tag.

i enjoyed the 4-3 games with liverpool, but if i have to pick one, its the asprilla inspired victory over barcelona.:smile2:

nice to get support down here :smile2:

i grew up admiring hughes, and funnily enough, i did not fall for the all conquering pool side of the 80s as i absolutely detest bruce grobelaar's monkey antics. (little did i know utd will buy one themselves in barthez!)

so, success or not, i have to say i will still support Utd, and my fav utd player till now is andrei kanschelskis.

Spurs are way to sane to take our tag. I was there that evening and it was awesome. we have had many players who are like him do nothing for say, 88 minutes and then do something spectacular. Asprilla, ,Robert, Ketsbayer, Ginola
Martins

If you don't like Groobelaar, go a little back, you'll find Ray Clemence^&grin, they were already bagging European Cups back in the Seventies!
Now more seriously, with all due respect, in my opinion no recent United team, good as they are, has ever reached the old Liverpool level. Keegan, Dalglish, Rush, Souness, Hansen, who would you trade them for? Rooney or Becks? But most important, they played together much better than any other English team that I can remember.
Oh and Mitch, Liverpool's place is not in the top four, the place for them is n.º 1, not just in the Premiership but also in Europe, hope to see them back at that level!

Viriato....

A very good squad indeed however, I think Liverpool have a long long way before they will be number one if at all. I think if City can get the blend right between hard working players and the right manager with the money they have they will very soon dominate PL football for a few years similar to what Chelsea did when all their money rolled in.

Liverpool have a few good players but many are IMO not good enough to make them Number four let alone number one. Look at the squads of Spurs, City, arsenal, chelsea and utd alone and you will see what I mean. Take away two or three and Liverpool are a average PL side at the moment. Yes, they have a brilliant pairing up front with recent signings who will undoubtedly help but, its a few years off yet. They have forgot how to be a team IMO They were better a few years back and still could not win.

Yo Jeff, take no notice mate, the last time Newcastle won a cup of any note I was a young boy and the Great Jackie Milburn scored. Since then Newcastle as we say " Couldn't kick back doors" I mean 56 years ago:eek: If I was to list Man United Trophies in the last 56 years I wouldn't finish till the morning probably miss the Bacon & Eggs lol. Until teams can put the same amount of effort into a game Man U players do they wont win anything. Chelsea think they only have to turn up now to win, none of their players broke into a sweat yesterday. BTW watched the Barcelona game the other day the English clubs can for get the Champions League this year, the only way they will beat Barcelona is if they don't turn up:rolleyes:. Just watching Messi is awesome and he always plays with a smile on his face he scored a Hat trick the other day. Newcastle's answer to Messi Joey Barton, dont make me hicup:(
Bernard.

It was a tea cup wasn't it?!! ^&grin^&grin

Back to ManU..........Eric Cantona; love him or hate him but he won four Premier League titles in five years, including two League and FA Cup Doubles.

Jeff :salute::

I don't think anyone was saying anything about what they have won just that they are not some peoples favourite team. The way I am about them has SFA about their trophy's but the rivalry I had growing up with my brother. Now, whether we have won anything has nothing to do with it. without the money Utd had we gave them a right good run for their money and rocked the PL thats why we were everyones favourite second team after their own.

Don't think anyone has compared Messi to Barton but, then there is no player in the Utd squad comparible either so, each supporter has his opinion. Messi without a good team behind him would be useless its what I have just said about Liverpool needing to become a team again.

Everyone keeps saying well, they have not played well, I just don't think they have much more or are they keeping it for the last few games?? There are plenty of losses and upsets to come with 13 games and lots of points to say its over that just seems to be a similar thing to what you have just said about chelsea thinking they can turn up and win. They have had a torrid season and, are fortunate to be where they are really due to that.

They also have massive headaches coming with the departure of Fergie which, will happen soon and the loss of Giggs scholes and a few others so, time will tell how they adapt to the problems that other teams have been going through for a number of seasons. This was talked about recently by the TV pundits who said the Man Utd era may be over unless they address these issues.

As for Newcastle inconsistancy in the board room and managers position has been our problem linked with some players thinking they were better than they were and milking us for millions.

Unfortunately I have to agree, I just hope they are starting to build something but it's going to take time and patience.
