I've looked for a thread on this, but haven't found one, so I'm adding this one. Has anyone else seen this, came out in 2008? I saw this in the $5 bin at Walmart on Saturday, so I bought it, and started watching it last night, but only got through 20 minutes before I had to turn it off. This is some of the worst dreck I've ever seen. It's a German equivalent to "Pearl Harbor". The flying sequences look good, but otherwise, apart from the fact that there was a European war in 1916 and there was a flyer named Manfred von Richthofen, it's almost completely made up.

Maybe if you're looking for a plain ol' war movie, or for cool aerial sequences, it's worth it, but otherwise, it's a piece of crap.

Brad, there was a thread on this film some years back. If I remember correctly, the general concensus amongst those that had seen it pretty much matched what you have to say, good flying/fighting scenes, but overall bad movie. I never did see it and now that I have seen you compare it to Pearl Harbor, I doubt I'll ever bother.^&grin -- Al

Probably would have been better if Biggles had appeared in it ^&grin

Cheers

Martyn:)

Yeah, Al, save your time, and your money.

I just finished reading a biography of Richthofen, by William E. Burroughs, it's a little dated, perhaps, but it's pretty well documented. And the movie character is little like the real man, and the other characters look little like the men described in the book. Just really, really bad. I can picture Leonard Pinth-Garnell doing an intro, for "Bad World War I Theater", "Bad, really bad, simply awful!"

Prost!

Brad, the Burrows book is one I read many moons ago and enjoyed. One of the oldest bios on Richthofen is Floyd Gibbons' 'The Red Knight of Germany', but it is still considered one of the best because of all the original research done for it. Kilduff's book is good, too. -- Al
