Fascinating, and I must of driven over the Purley Way a hundred times, when work took me to darkest Croydon without knowing !

Picture below is of captured helmets on display in NYC after the war. Oddly enough genuine German helmets go for hundreds of dollars in militaria sales today. I have an 1936 German fire brigade helmet with original liner bought for $50 at an auction, I was the only bidder. I've read thousands of WWII helmets were dumped in a chasm in Holland (I believe) and relic hunters still dig them up although thoroughly decomposed.
