Nice, Matt!! Looks very cool. :cool::cool: Is it a quonset hut reinforced with concrete and dirt as a bunker?

It looks great in the photos. The concrete texture looks so realistic and the small crack in the wall adds to the realism. That bunker could fit in almost anywhere.

Great stuff Matt.
You have more Wake Island after the landing craft and #4 Jap set?
Your killing my wallet, but that,s what ebay is for.

Looks brilliant and offers those of us who support this absolutely excellent range several options.
Thanks Matt

Working on more figures for Wake Island. I am still researching Gun emplacements. Need more info for Figarti.

Via the modern miracle of the telephone, I found out this morning that my order for the entire Wake Island Range + Multoples has been delivered straight to our home in China with no problems whatsoever.
This was a large order containing other items as well as the WI range.

I'd like to thank Matt Murphy and all his staff at Hobbybunker for all their efforts in ensuring I received these additions to our collection.
Sending international orders into China can be a very involved process at the best of times - but this one went without a hitch.

Once again THANKS MATT.

And - I'll most certainly be back for more.

Best Regards
Harry

It is hard to find photos of the actual USMC coast guns at Wake Island. It seems most of what survives now are Japanese coast guns, including some reportedly captured from the British at Singapore.

The basic coast gun was a 5"/51cal naval type guns. This gun was photographed at San Diego prior to being sent "overseas";

The AAA were 3" guns;

Both types were supported by coincidence rangefinders like these;

Does anyone know the reason, apart from the obvious one, why the Japanese executed 5, and only 5, of the defenders almost directly after the surrender? I've only seen a very brief reference to that one - although the reason why all 98 of the civilian contactors left behind on the island to carry out slave labour were murdered later in the war (1943..?), was given at the subsequent war crimes trial as being the Japanese garrison were worried about having to deal with a 5th Column should the Island be counter-invaded.
About as flimsy an excuse for a cold blooded massacre as I've ever heard.

Harry

I believe the five were identified either as being on the 3 in gun crew that had sunk and damaged their ships or pilots that had bombed their ships and they wanted revenge.

Dave at Hobby Bunker says the Wake bunker is coming along well and that we should be expecting some other goodies as well. For those interested in collecting the whole Wake series, none of the sets have sold out yet so go gettum:D

I hope to have another set or two at the show.

After many hours of research it looks like the 5" Naval Gun will be made! Thanks to help from the Coastal Defense research Group!

Additions to the Wake Island range announced yesterday on the Hobbybunker forum;

5" Naval Gun
Japanese Seaman
US NAVY - Work Clothes in action
Command Set

I've got my pre-pre-pre-order in via email already - and will most likely get multiples of every new release.
