We have the first 4 episodes available to us on Comcast On Demand so I recorded 2 this morning and do the other 2 tonight and watch them this weekend.I work with a guy who's read all the books which there are about 25 and says the books are great.Heard mixed reviews on this but I will judge for myself.

I read the first 3 books many moons ago and enjoyed them for what they were, but wasn't impressed enough to keep up with the series. Was always under the impression that it was a rather a lesser LoR. Might not be fair as I didn't keep up with the entire series but that is where I was when I finished the first 3 books. More to the point, I remember almost nothing about the Shannara books now, where as Tolkien stays with me. -- Al

It is a production of MTV. That should tell you something.

You shouldn't judge something until you see it for yourself.Teen Wolf was very good the first couple seasons and Scream was pretty good. Can't say about other scripted shows on there as I have not watched them.

I didn't say anything derogatory. I merely said that it is a production of MTV. MTV's target demographic
is 15 to 18 year olds. Hence "that should tell you something."

Didn't say you did but I guess I must be entering my second childhood as I like a couple shows.{eek3}^&grin Seriously though I think a lot of these basic cable are doing some quality shows.I never thought AMC would be doing so well.

Well I watched the first 4 episodes and didn't think they were bad. It's not GOT but it isn't suppose to be.Reminds me of shows I use to look at on a Saturday afternoon like Legend of the Seeker.Probably will hang around a season or two then quietly disappear. Not on a big budget but special effects are quite good.I'm in for the long haul. Manu Bennett who has been on Spartacus and Arrow one of the main characters.

Yes it was pleasant so far

Legend of the seeker was based on the fabulous books from Jordan : The Wheel of Time books were very very good; the serie a complete dissapointment

The Shannara by T Brooks was far far from the quality of Wheel of Time
The serie is far better than Legend of the seeker . Pity the mashedpotatos music .

Oooh ! Almost forgot : IMHO :salute::

Just watched the first series. Yep, no GOT and didn't do enough for me to go to season 2. Yes, clearly aimed at young-adults, with attractive leads and lots of dramatic developments. I found it funny at the number of times someone was captured and had a lucky escape. Or fell from a height and lived. I also rolled my eyes at the number of times someone held a knife at someones throat and you knew nothing would happen - until the elf-rider got his turn! So the plot events certainly weren't aimed at me as a 55 year old. I don't mind post-apocalyptic themes but the demon stuff was a bit overdone. (I found this in the only Brooks book I read, a different series though) The final battle with the more Uruk-hai looking army was better. The elves had poor battle tactics though. I thought the character of Wil was ok. Funny to hear the Australian accents.
I've started The Witcher now, and though a bit hard to hear the dialogue at times, is much more adult in construction.

I watched this and liked the first season but not so much the second.Someone I work with read the books and hated the series saying they started with book 3 and was all over the place with it.I watched the first season of the Witcher and liked it.

I loved the books but hated the series. Seems stupid to take a book set and alienate the built in audience.

I am loving The Witcher which is mostly staying true to the story.
