On another thread I asked Ken whether there would be any chance of Britains producing a Sudan Wars range in matt. This sparked a bit of interest by a few forum members and so rather than hijack the other thread anymore I would like to formally kick off the campaign for the above.

Richard & Ken, a range of figures for the Sudan Campaigns 1880-98 in the matt style of the Zulu War please. :)

Thanks

Jeff

I,ll secound the motion , Damians point raised on the other thread is a very
good one also regarding a more comprehensive range as opposed to stand alone figures [which in my case no matter how good I tend not to buy as
I prefer to be able to build on a range]

As Martyn has been showing us his new Trophy figures many of the same figures are used with just a paint switch it seems. Could Britains not do this also? Or are we expecting much more detail?

This would be a great range as the Sudan campaigns had many interesting personalities,The Mahdi,Gordon,Wolseley,Buller,Osman Digna,Kitchner,MacDonald,British Troops,Camel Corps,Fuzzy Wuzzies,Naval Brigade, Gunboats,Egyptian,Sudanese troops.Very interesting period.

I have been lobbying both Richard and Ken for the Sudan since last year. I would even take them in glossy. The 3 figures done thus far for the Sudan in the Redcoats line are outstanding. With the variety of subjects this could be a long running series. The Museum Collection 1882 Black-Watch Anglo-Egyptian War figure would be a good place to build out from as WB has recently done with their new BW Napoleonic series.

Another vote here for Tel El-Kebir, Khartoum and Omdurman.

I completely agree with you Polar..i've bought already (due in july obviously)the 2 new figures of the Lancer and the Highlander (it's Afghanistan i know but the period is nearly the same), it's a great period to reproduce and it's very cinematic too..lastly i've watched the Four Feathers (Korda 1939) different from the new (2002) and very good too , but in the original the Brits are wearing the Khaki. Also a very good film is Young Winston in which there is a good reproduction (too short maybe) of Omdurman and the last charge..i hope we'll have some artillery or something original..

Sounds fine by me to start a Sudan Campaign Series just so long as it's in matt.

If it were glossy, The temptation may be too great for me to resist collecting them. :p In matt, I think I'll be fine. :D

I would support a decent Sudan range for sure.
The one off's are really good but I would love to see a comprehensive range like the AZW.

The few glossy releases look great but i agree that a full range would really get me going. As for matte; it sounds great. Lots of waving banners and floppy clothing. It does lend itself for a very animated and dramatic series. Lots of variety as mentioned above.

And no, repaints like Trophy did are unacceptable imho. It's just cheap.

My only concern is that I won't be able to get everything because of the ZW series. And I want WB to continue both matte and glossy in that line for a long time.

Mmm choices...:)

I'm sure that a range of figures and scenic pieces in the same high quality as the AZW would be very well received.

Thank for the input guys. So, lets narrow it down:

Tel-el-Kebir - 1882

Khartoum - 1885

Omdurman - 1898

............

I have never been a big fan of Tel-el Kebir
Who was the British politician who suggested a vote of thanks to the Egyptian Army for running away.
I would prefer the war against the Madhi.
Gordon Relief expedition because the tunics were still red for some of the Battles and the Camel Corp were colorful.
Omdurman is a little bit less colorful and apart from the Charge of the 21 st Lancers not as exciting.

Sounding good; yes
Any preference; The first two.

But would we be talking matte or gloss here? Matte seems obvious but some releases have been done as redcoat singles in gloss.

I would prefer the earlier period where it is still possible to have a mixture of red and khaki uniforms and of course grey for camel corps - please! :D
