The inhabitants of this French town have had to put up with German Rule for nearly four years....

American paratroopers have landed, and are surrounding the town to capture it from the Germans, so that the armour from the beaches can link up!

Glider troops move into position, and the machine gun is set in place with the sniper's in position to take out the crew going for the armoured car!

On the word from Vandervoort, the machine gun opens up on a group of Waffen SS soldiers outside of a village house!

A bazooka man fires on the armoured car from a difficult angle....

......rendering it useless....

With the armoured car disposed of and the Germans confused with what's going opn, the American troops rush down the centre of the village with the 30.cal providing covering fire....

The Paras move right through the town making Germans fall back to the outskirts of the town...

Ando so the Americans have captured the town....for now, and begin moving their equipment into the town...

Vandervoort considers the possibility of a German counterattack, so orders defensive positions to be set up.....

Vandervoort is considering sending out a runner (as the radioman got lost in the jump and wound up with a group of the 101st) to look for the armour which is late in arriving....suddenly....faint thus in the distances....MORTARS!!!!
They rip up the ground surrounding the town, causing the paras in the defences to retreat to the town centre!

The mortars stop and then come engines, coming fast towards the town!

The germans have trucks and othe rlight vehicles, however the men inside them have heavy machine guns and Panzerfausts....the American equipment is quickly destroyed or captured and turned against the paras!

The paras have no choice but to retreat from the town....

St Mere Eglise is once again in the hands of the Germans....

The cavalry arrive, in the form of the 3rd Infantry Division......

The approach to St Mere Eglise is swift with the infantry oving forward with the leading Sherman tank!
The radio operator riding the tank keeps in close contact with the paras who are moving into position on the other side of town to surround the Germans and finally take back St Mere Eglise for the last time....

The Germans are taken completely by surprise as their defensive positions were not set up!!!!!

The tanks ride right through the town moving down the Germans....

The Germans are surrounded, those who attempt to escape are given no quarter....

And the town is in allies hands once again!

3rd Inf troops clear out the buildings for any cowardly enemy troops....

Allied troops pour in and the town is liberated from German control!

Only problems for St Mere Eglise now was traffic jams!

Onto Berlin.....
