William "Wild Bill" McClure, a test pilot for Delta Airlines is putting one of their new Lockheed 10 Electras through the paces testing its capabilities landing on a variety of terrain in case of an emergency. The planes were recently delivered to Delta from the Lockheed plant in Burbank, California located next to the studios of Walt Disney. During World War II Disney artists painted some of their characters on the noses of American military aircraft coming off the Lockheed assembly line. In 1937, Amelia Earhart would disappear somewhere in the Pacific piloting a Lockheed 10 Electra.

One of a series of dry brush paintings done by Delta staff artist Robert Minturn to record the airlines use of this aircraft.

Figure: John Jenkins Designs
Airplane: New Ray Toys

Randy,

You never fail to disappoint with your variety of ideas.

Brad

Well Randy, I enjoy your variety of ideas so I'm gonna go with 'never cease to amaze' (I'm sure that's what the other posters meant:) ) though a wee bit envious that you've had such advance fun with that Marne Taxi. As an Air Traffic Controller in a former role, I saw a lot of later-model Electras...love your work :salute::

Brad, I know the Australian language differs somewhat from other English speaking countries, but that doesn't seem like a compliment to me.

Your explanation totally broke me up!

Meaning:

A. It made me laugh

Or

B. I broke down and cried

^&grin^&grin^&grin^&grin

Thanks guys. That plane model is for my 8 yr old niece who is crazy about Amelia Earhart. I decided to use it in a photo before giving it to her tomorrow.

I envy your having seen some in person. I love that 1930s streamlined look.

Gee, I think we speak the same language Matt ^&confuse it was intended to be the highest of compliments. Randy has a knack of bringing together figures from many different companies to make wonderful scenes.
