THE TEXAS TOY SOLDIER SHOW
&
THE FUTURE

After careful thought and consideration King & Country and Kings X have decided not to continue with ‘The Texas Toy Soldier Show’ in 2019.

Recently, our host venue transitioned to new ownership, resulting in substantially higher costs for our event which have proved unsustainable.

To this end and in discussion with others in the hobby, we intend to seek out alternative locations elsewhere... both in and outside of Texas.

Our aim is to create a new show that would be held sometime in the first half of 2020.

We will bring collectors, dealers and manufacturers more details and information as we progress.

At this time we would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to ALL those who worked with us and took part in all of the previous Texas Shows.

With best wishes,

But I never got to say good bye to that ghost in my room at the Menger!!! 😉

I’m sure wherever you find a place it’ll be a great show! So much of the show is seeing all friends and making new ones. No matter where it is, that part will remain!

I really enjoyed my two times at the Texas Show. Sorry to hear this Andy, but I know you will come up with another excellent venue for 2020.

I'm really sorry to hear this Andy but I guess it's the sign of the times. I enjoyed the one and only show that I attended in 2017 and will cherish the memories and pic's that I took at that event. The Menger is a great old hotel and unlike Zach, I don't need to say goodbye to the ghost as I don't think I drank as much as Zach during my stay....^&grin

I guess that was my first and last Texas Show. It was great meeting with everyone there.

That’s too bad Andy as I never got down there. Unfortunately, in this business environment shows are becoming a thing of the past.

Best of luck.

One of the best shows I have attended, a true highlight in the hobby for me year in and year out.

Luckily it seems that the venue is simply changing, thus the show will live on just in another place!

That is very sad news. The Texas Show was the first Toy Soldier show I ever got to go to. I made it to 9 of the first 10 shows. (I missed #3.) I couldn't make the last 2 shows because of my new job. I was hoping to make it this year, but now that is not going to happen. I hope that it will be considered to have one in 2020 somewhere in Texas. I will miss seeing people like Gary Bedel, Ed Gannon, Jack (John Wayne) Edmondson and many others.

Andy...

I'm really sorry to hear that...
I always look forward to going to that show...
especially since you and Laura took it over...

I have enjoyed getting a table and making and selling dioramas...
and I have enjoyed going there with nothing to do and just having fun...

I hope you can figure something out to keep it alive...
San Antonio is such a fun town...

how about Galveston...
it's about a 3 1/2 hour drive...
or is that too far?

Sad news for sure. Hopefully something will surface to keep the show in San Antonio. If not we as collectors will adapt to whatever changes
that are made.Too bad the Menger Hotel raised their rates. This was an outstanding venue. Staying positive !!!

Sorry to hear of this for all who are involved. 2017 was my one and only visit and the show, the speaker were a dream come true. My wife told me tonight that we were going next year. Such is life now looking forward to 2020.

Well that puts a cat amongst the Pigeons.^&grin I was planning to visit the best place in the good old U.S. of A., San Antonio in 2019. But I am looking forward to the new venue.{sm4} Alexander and Brad, you two guys are defeatist. I am backing Andy to come up with an even bigger and better Show that will make Chicago, which I truly love, small potatoes.
Cheers from the Land Down Under, Howard

Not defeatist cobber, realistic. Online shopping is the preferred way of shopping these days, not just toy soldiers but all consumer products. People who were inveterate mall shoppers have, in many cases, opted for online shipping. It’s a growing trend — and keeps growing year after year — and is unlikely to be reversed. It’s no coincidence that shows are disappearing or that attendance. Frankly, I prefer to see things in the flesh but I know the trend is to the contrary.

I think the future is combined shows. Gaming, toy soldiers, trains, whatever.

Sorry for the error but the next to last sentence should have concluded with the words “attendance is declining.”
