I purchased in 1997 all of Frontline Figures' "The Thin Red Line" of the Crimean War 1854 series of the Russian cavalry brigade attacking the 93rd British Army Highlanders under General Colin Powell, except for two of the Russian cavalry sets that did not come in with the order. I decided I had enough already and did not wait for the last two sets. While I have gone over to just getting K&C sets nearly all the time since 1999 or 2000 I still like these figures which I got at a good price from my local toy soldier dealer Bill Schommer. Ah, I only wish I could get such good prices now! All figures are in gloss.

Very nice, I think Frontline should have stuck with the glossies, their sculpts look much better glossy than matte.

I quite agree with this. I have some of the COLB 11th Hussars which I really like and would love to add to. The Crimean figures are very nice as is the Russian cavalry. Never much cared for the matte FL figures although I have thought about getting some FIW French infantry but haven't done it, yet. -- Al

Hi Gary,

Thanks very much for posting the photographs of your nice Thin Red Line display with the 93rd by Frontline.

Did you do a display of the Charge of the Light Brigade with Lord Cardigan ?

Dear Raymond:

"Did I do a display of the Charge of the Light Brigade with Lord Cardigan?". Ha, ha! I sold off all of the Light Brigade sets by Frontline Figs in 2009 with the special mounted set of Lord Cardigan being sold to you.

A very nice collection you have there. The Crimean War is one of my favourite periods. I collect the K&C UK matt range but these glossy figures look great together.

Yo Trooper, always thought General Sir Colin Cambell was in Charge of the Highland Brigade in the Crimea IE: The Thin Red Line. Also thought General Colin Powell was in the Gulf War.
Bernard.

Dear Bernard:

Jolly good notations on who was in charge of what in 1854 & 1991. I too am well aware of General Sir Colin Cambell being commander of the 93rd Highlanders in 1854 and US Army General Colin Powell being head of the US military Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1991. I did not look up the spelling of Cambell as I thought I did not need to and I am afraid the name "Powell" slipped into my mind as both above noted generals have the same first name. Seriously, thank you for the correction of my typo error.

Dear "Captain" Bernard:

Thanks for reply back. While my typo error was greater, I have to note that in your first rely back you incorrectly spelled "Campbell" by using "Cambell". Thus, I would request no "stable duties" from you unless you are going to do stable duties as well for your error, ha, ha.

While I have gone on to just getting matte figures from King & Country for some years now I still like these Crimean War sets from Frontline Figures and the low prices I got on them back in 1997.

Cheers! Gary / "Iron Brigade"

Dear Bernard:

Gosh, let's not have a Captain do stable duties. And it is too warm & humid here just right now to do any such duty as well. Let's just forget about the whole thing on "stable duties" for both of us, ha, ha.

Hi Iron Brigade , my set CWP2 , wounded does not have a feather bonnet with the lying figure , only the loose musket .

is the feather bonnet a separate piece ? I wonder if later sets didn't include the bonnet .

I got my set in March 2011 but it may have been in stock for a while .

Any thoughts would be appreciated .

Thanks
Kirk

PS , these are great figures for the price !

last week I had the pleasure of meeting Gary (Iron Brigade) and his Wife.I personally viewed the Thin Red Line. An outstanding diorama. Good to see it again.

Dear Kirk:

Yes indeed, the hats or head gear for each of the two lying on the ground wounded 93rd Highlanders came with the figure as well as the loose musket!!

Dear "ROUGH RIDER":

Thanks for bringing back this old 2010 Thread or posting started by me on my Crimean War diorama using all Frontline Figures and your kind comments. It was very nice meeting you last Saturday!

Dear Kirk:

I was happy to provide you the Frontline Figures (FF) 93rd Highlander "wounded" figure information. Actually, the two lying down wounded 93rd Highlander soldiers were parts of two sets of (FF) set# CPW2. These FF CPW2 sets each consisted of the lying down wounded figure with loose musket & hat AND a duplex of two additional figures of a standing or perhaps slow walking wounded soldier being held up by another soldier who was not wounded. However, I did not like the looks of the duplex figures and my local dealer, Bill Schommer, back in 1997 agreed "split" up these two sets so as to just sell me the lying down wounded figures. In any case, it would seem that lying down wounded 93rd highlanders should have hats as well as loose muskets.

"Iron Brigade" / Gary
