Somewhere along the Rhine-Danube frontier stands one of many Watchtowers.
A change over is taking place. The transfer has to be done by boat which along with the Legionaries brings their food supplies too as locals are not friendly and will not trade.
But before the old team leaves, looking forward to their return to the land of their prince and their woman, the two guys known as the joker and the thief cook their ill gotten chicken badly, making the others worry that their smoke will be mistaken for an alarm in the next Watchtower in the chain.

Is the tune; "All along the watchtower", or maybe "Smoke gets in your eyes", long shot is "The joker & the thief". Is there a prize for winning entry ^&confuse :wink2:

Sure thing Matt, well done ! The prize is a big cheesy grin !:D :p ^&grin and yes of course I should add, it's All along the Watchtower. Hendrix version of course !

That's a lot of smoke for one chicken, are you sure the baricade wall hasn't caught on fire. Seriously, another different variation on your Roman theme and the ideas just keep coming. Great scene. Regards Sapper.

Methinks that joker is a chain smoker :)

Thanks Greg, I'm only sticking to the 1st and 2nd Century A.D. with my little stories and scenes, anything more and it just comes too much if I want to keep the armour fairly consistent with the times. Though the more I read the more I am finding that my perceptions of what was worn when is more elastic than I thought.
Still there's an awful amount of time and space to fit my little scenes into so I hope others will do jobs with Scipio, Marius, Sulla, Pompey and Caesar !

At the moment I'm converting some Del Prado figures to help out as Jewish rebels for my SPQR thread.

I believe you can visit the site today. The Archaeologists first thought they'd found a site of conflict, but now they believe it burned down due to domestic fire !^&grin^&grin

Thought I take a few pictures of my watch tower and Romans, I normally have them displayed in a glass cabinet but they did not picture well in the cabinet, so put them out on the table.

That's a great Watchtower.
Did you make it yourself ? What's it made it from ?

There's plenty of choice when it comes to modelling one since no complete ones remain. A good idea of what they looked like are on Trajan's column.
The one I'm constructing is first two stories stone type, actually Foamboard with a chipboard lining for strength as the weight of figures might topple it otherwise.
Still have to make the walkway, guard room and roof, but I'm getting there !

Your Country Honor tents look well too, I may get one or two myself. I think TG have said they'll be releasing their own. Though they didn't say whether it'll be an ordinary one for the Legionaries or a more fancy commanders one.

Great watchtower. The Lorica Segmentata was last recorded in use about 275 AD; so the TG legionary armor would be correct through most of the third century CE.

The tower fits nicely with your Roman collection. You have done a really good job building it. Robin.

I cannot take the credit for the Watch Tower, I think it is from David at T M Terrain [they have a thread and the stuff he produces is incredible] I was at the Birmingham [UK] Toy Soldier and I bought for £38 [$51] from someone selling off their unwanted stuff.

I think JJ announced they would be doing some Roman fort parts at some point?

Well regardless of who built it, it's a great piece to have to set off your Romans !

Steve

I think it is great as well. One thing that strikes me (and this is just mental masterba... er, exercise) is whether the Romans would have had a ragged stockade. Their reputation is more standard but who knows how much they could actually achieve.

Again, really like it. Just makes my brain say “hmm...”

I made one a while back but it is nothing in comparison to yours. Very nice. Are those ED tents? What are your thoughts? I was thinking of picking 1 or 2 up.

The tents are great, there are also guide ropes as well, I also like the Roman artillery as well.

This was my interpretation of a Watchtower with a stone base.
Cheers
Carlo

Awesome Carlo !:salute::

I see in you diorama a Legionary taking his shield from it's leather cover. Do you remember who made that figure please ?

Steve, this is a 7cm figure by 'Germania Figuren', similar to Elastolin. He goes well with 60mm because bent on the shield.

Thanks Carlo, as you say the figure fits in nicely.
Perhaps TG will consider doing a similar pose !
