David McCollough has a new book coming out next week about the Wright Brothers that seems to have received generally positive reviews.

Here is a review from the Daily Beast.

I've been waiting for this one. I like McCollough so it goes on the list. -- Al

I had no idea he was doing a book until I was reading the paper this morning in the "reading room" and saw he was making an appearance locally to promote the book.

I have mixed feelings on McCullough. A lot of his books have that feel good slant on American history that appeals to an older audience. They remind me a bit of those 1950s and 60s Disney movies like Davy Crockett. They certainly are readable and interesting though.

The only book I read of his was the Truman book and it was very good.

Not sure what you mean by appealing to older Americans. You could say that Bruce Catton represents that kind of writing but he's a great writer.

One of my favorite authors, but then I'm in the "older" reader category. His book on the Panama Canal was excellent. Wright Bros is on my list as well. Wonder if he will examine the issue of the German who may have preceded them in powered flight by 3 yrs. Occurred in the US. Chris

I'm one of those older readers, as well. I really enjoyed 'The Great Bridge' and 'The Johnstown Flood', and 'Mornings on Horseback' is a classic. I like him. -- Al
