I read something very sad today.Fred(Boot51)is taking a break from the forum as he feels its no longer enjoyable. This is bad news.

Despite Stevens excellant reporting for us, the last few days have been overshadowed by arguments. When we should have been celebrating the stunning new ranges from K&C we have had to read insults and slurs.Somehow we have to sought this because i feel its threatening the true spirit and harmony of this forum.Since coming on here i have learnt so much from people like Brad,Louis,Oz,Easy,Sceic2,kevin and countless others.I have met some very helpful people who have gone out of thier way to give me assistance. Its a wonderful forum and i just don't want to see it go down the pan.

I don't pretend to have all the answers because i don't.However can i please make these suggestions.First the Njja/Oz situation.I understand this has been going on for a long time and looks unlikely to be settled.Couldn't they just use the ignore button for each others posts?.This would at least give them a break from each other for a while?.

Then we have the 'Napoleonic' situation.I know Ron has ruffled a few feathers since his arrival with his love for you know who.He even ruffled mine when he arrived as i thought he was overtly anti British!.I now believe i was wrong and it's his sense of humour,i don't think he is a malicious chap in anyway. He has boundless enthusiasm for his subject which is amusing. However i understand that this is upsetting people a lot.So my second suggestion would be(and i think this was tried earlier)that Ron has his own Napoleonic thread and if you don't want to hear about you know who you don't go there, simple!.And maybe Ron might agree to not bring his subject into all the other threads.(again to be fair he has done this before).

The reason i am writing all this is i can't bare to see our forum ruined like this. Its the best place in the world to talk about the hobby i love and i have made friends and hope to make more in December.I thank Shannon for creating it and i thank Brad for the excellant job he does.Come on everybody lets fix this because we can't afford to lose people like Fred.

Well said Rob. I haven't seen the arguements mainly because I don't use the forum so much over the weekends.
I hope people don't start leaving as I think everybody here makes a valid contribution.
I have to admit I do come out with the odd post about nonsense and have in the past made use of various fonts :)
What's made this forum such a success is the diverse group of people we have here. From the serious guys, to the major K&C fans and to those who like a bit of a laugh.

The most important thing on here is that everyone enjoys collecting Toy Soldiers or military miniatures or what ever you want to call them.
We all enjoy hearing news about releases or retirements or about exciting new products and we are all united by having not enough money to spend! :)

Like you Rob I think the best way to go here is to have a thread where we can just talk about whatever we want and just have a laugh.

It would be good to keep it in the K&C forum though because that is where most people hang out. If you stick it in General discussion you'll find a lot of people don't even visit.

So anyways "Don't go Fred". Your posts are extremely important to this forum and would be missed.

Hi James,

You are spot on.Where else can you learn and have a laugh too.Well school i suppose, but theres no way that uniform is gonna fit now.(and i never liked the skirt and blouse anyway!!)

What an image Rob! I'm trying to erase it from my mind! :)

If we have a new thread for chat and fun it would be good if it was given sticky status by the mods so that it doesn't slip down and out of sight. That way it would stop more threads of a similar nature being created.

On a similar note how about a Reviews thread with a sticky on it? It would keep all the thoughts and opinions on new items/purchases easily accessible for information.

Very good ideas oh Easy one!.I think its good to keep the humour in and in a way that dosen't upset people.Like the idea of a reviews thread. Can't tell you how many times peoples view and reviews have helped me make decision.I would also like to see a section where people could list say their top three/five(?)wants.This could be a good data base for Andy of public opinions. We've got to try and move this forum back to where it was, informative, helpful and fun.(and lots about the Britsh Paras!)

Gentlemen

First off let me say it has been a pleasure to talk with most of you. This forum is a great place for the Toy Soldier Hobbyist and wonderful reasource for questions on the industry.

As, Rob has said that my intial entry on the forum came with a bang. It was kinda like your first real drink of whiskey - you loved it and got drunk and probally made a fool of yourself. Well, I am sure there are plenty of heads going up and down right now. I am aware of this now.

The NAPOLEONIC SITUATION - hahaha - I really love that....Rob you could work in Washington with a phrase like that. Yes - I did upset a few of the fundy duds - with my repetition of Napoleon - and for those who were emotional scared from the experience - I Apologise to You.

Rob, was correct that I have started my own Napoleon Threads - so we could have fun and chat about the Grand Armee - but this seems to be under attack now as well.

So, here's the deal - I plan to leave for while - I certainly dont want to cause anyone to be so upset that they have to leave. This really all has been too much DRAMA for my taste. I really do have better things to do than argue over if my fonts are too big and I use color in my posts. Its really stupid.

The forum was a place for me to blow off steam and escape the ugly world of Washington politics for awhile. But, my steam seems to have burnt a few of you. Again, I am sorry for that.

For those who have long for this - I will take the break - I will not quit or run - I dont do that well and dont plan on starting to. We French Never Retreat......OK even I had to giggle at that statement. Come on - its not worth going through all the BS with who is blocking whos posts - that is petty and foolish.

Anyway - I look forward to Louis' event - Again Thank You Louis for the inviation and I will see you with my lovely Kirsten - Friday Night at the Cornell Club.

It has been great fun and for those of you who enjoyed the crazy french stuff - well your on your own now. Feel free to shoot me a PM from time to time and I will do the same. Sorry if my humor got any of you in trouble.

I shall sit out a few plays and let the team go on.

Ron

Make sure you come back though Ron,because we are all part of this forum.Have fun at the symposium.

Folks,

I think all this talk about what's wrong with the Forum, etc., people leaving is a tad bit exaggerated. Shannon and I don't see anything wrong, certainly nothing that needs to be fixed. Just like a good grape vine, it needs a little pruning now and then, but that's all.

Forums are basically what the members make it, not what the operators think it should be. It's a fact of life that members come and go. I have seen it at the jazz boards I frequent. Old established ones leave and new ones come to take their place. In that respect, it's like a living organism. I hate to see any member leave because that member makes a contribution. On the other hand, no member, including me, Louis or anyone else, is bigger than the Forum. The Forum is pretty well established now in the toy soldier world and it will continue. I don't want to see anyone leave but I'm not here to stop you if that's what you want to do.

Enough chest beating, hand wringing, or whatever. Let's just get back to the business of what drew us here in the first place.

Actually it would make a happy change to talk para's!.I can't wait and have to be careful not to spend too much this summer, so i'm ready for the drop in Septemberish.

Rob

Definitely, British Paras. It's too bad we have to wait until the fall but I'm sure these are being released to coincide with the battle and I'm sure there will be a limited release in there. I wonder if Andy will do certificates again? Probably just for the limited.

Yep, agree. It's nice to have an idea when the bank balance is going to take (another) sharp dip.

With that in mind, I'm not touching K&C Napoleonics unfortunately. I, like you would like a square, or at least a quarter of a square (hmmmm....that'll be a line then..) of Redcoats, but I'd need dozens and dozens of the same or similar poses, and my funds won't rise to that, so I'll have to make it another painted / converted plastic project for the future.

I probably won't go in to WWI either, as there is far too much good WWII stuff coming out, from all manufacturers.

The Charge of the Light Brigade? I think I may be swayed by this line. Helped by the release strategy of K&C UK. If they're going to be doing 3 or 4 sets every 6 months or so, I reckon I can stay on top of this line and still fund my WWII addiction.

And boy, do I need more display space.

Simon

Simon, yes i think K&C UK's idea of releasing Crimean stuff every six months is a very good one.As you say it still allows you to do WW2 which is my main collection too. However the months between releases are still filled with temptation!.What i also like about the Crimean (and if i dabble in WW1)is that it'll be really nice to be at the start of a series or two.I came far to late to the scene and so never got DD01 or WS01 etc. Also the second wave of Crimean stuff comes at xmas, so if i'm a good boy all year....santa may pay me a visit!

Rob

I checked out the Figarti ones..not for me i'm afaraid. But i love their SAS Jeep!

Rob

The Figarti ones are also for Pegasus whereas the K & C will be for Arnhem although I suppose they're somewhat interchangeable.

Do you think you will be tempted by the forthcoming drop of Red devils Brad?.

Rob

The ones that Figarti is making?

KV,

I think, probably both. K&C, because they will be fantastic. I think that's a fairly surefire bet.

Figarti's, well, I'll tread carefully. If I can get to see them, I'll make up my mind then, but if not, I'll order a set or two and thenmake up my mind about the remainder.
Some of the poses look very good, others are a little more iffy.
I collect both 1/32 and 1/30 and I've got a company of Conte Brit paras in need of support. :)

Simon

Do you think you will be tempted by the forthcoming drop of Red devils Brad?.

Rob

Rob,

If you mean the Arnhem ones, yes, I'm going to buy the lot of them. Not sure yet about Figarti. I want to see them in person before commiting.
