This is a local shop for local people but we don't stock Britains.......... (2 Viewers)

If you go to Stratford Upon Avon then I would suggest a 20 minute detour to Evesham, where Magpie (Manchester House) Ltd are.

They have a large amount of WB, (and TG, FL, KC amongst others) displayed in row after row of cabinets. It is a fantastic shop to go into for toy soldiers plus they have lots of military memorabilia from guns to helmets

That's a good call Gaz^&cool. I didn't realise it was that close to Stratford upon Avon.
I have bought from them via eBay before and have been looking for an excuse to visit that shop for years.
I can see a plan coming together now.
What I need is to disguise it has a holiday plan and I need to find a distraction for the wife while I spend all our money:salute::.

I've never tried Canterbury. I'm always visiting the Kent coast so I'll check it out when I'm next down there. Thanks.

I looked on the WB website and the only shop listed for Canterbury is Burgate Antiques is that the one?

its very near the cathedral , but im not sure of the name but that name seems familiar .

I didn't know about the WH Smith/ Modelzone link. What's that all about?

I could buy my monthly Toy soldier magazines and toy soldiers in one hit^&grin

Guys,
I just called WH Smith in Kingston upon Thames and they have opened a Modelzone store inside their store.
At the moment they don't stock WB :( but they are looking to expand their ranges and they say they are open to suggestions from customers{sm3}.
I put in my request to them to start selling WB again and hopefully a few others will as well.
Apparently WH Smith are using the Modelzone name but they own all the stock.

If you look on the WH Smith website they list all the stores which contain a Modelzone outlet.
Might be worth asking them to stock Britains if they are in your area.
Here is the link.
I apologise if this is common knowledge and I'm just being thick and missed it first time around.

They do however stock train sets and diecast models which leads me to believe that WB have loaded Bachmann's retail outlets on the WB website which is not very helpful.
Has anyone else experienced this?

WB's closed their own UK operation over 2 years ago and sold the UK and European distribution rights to Bachmann. Bachmann changed the trading terms for the old bricks and mortar outlets which then resulted in many no longer stocking WB's. Sales of trains etc have been hit , not just toy soldiers due to the tougher financial climate. So one suspects that it hasn't been a particularly successful commercial venture for Bachmann.

There was a close tie between Modelzone and WB in the past. Not least that WB used MZ's warehousing facilities. Small world.

Before MZ there was Beatties, which went the same way.

Unfortunately no longer the volume sales to sustain a shop on soldiers alone. Simply uneconomic.

I'm biased because I make a range of figures.^&grin Have you tried Ken at Maison Militaire. He's in Scarborough but I go down regularly.

It is a bit for to travel. But it is interesting to see that from the end of April the Royal Armouries in Leeds will be selling a large range of W Britains which is not a massive distance for me.

That would explain why most of the retailers only have old stock for sale. I would say only about 5 or 6 retailers now have any of the new realises. I hope it does not turn out to be a mistake.

Big selling lines in UK are Zulus. Even then quantities appear to be well down. Not enough production to support a large dealer network.

I think there is only 2 shops that really have a decent stock, Magpies in Evesham [good shop], which is well worth a visit and a hour break on the M5 if you are on the way to Cornwall or Devon for holiday. The other is the Guards Shop in London.

the rest on the list stock very little, I travel around the UK and have visited the shops on the list and the vast majority have nothing.

This links to the other thread 'Have Britains lost their way?' to answer yes.
