I'm curious if Matt has ever thought of starting a Collectors Club for FL. It seems to me that he would have a good following if he did. The talent is most certainly there to produce some SL figures. Maybe even a little inside info for the simple folk :wink2: in the Collectors Club wouldn't hurt either.

I'm pretty sure this was brought up sometime back and Matt shot it down , can't remember his response but it was a no go for sure .. I would like to see that old discount section on the website put back up ^&grin^&grin Regards Gebhard

Thats too bad!!! I would have really liked to see something like a Collectors Club established but I'm sure Matt has his reason. I must have missed out on the discount section. I don't recall ever seeing one.

I'm onboard with the idea of specials/discounts on the First Legion site. Haven't ever seen anything posted there, but like Gebhard, I check it quite often anyway.^&grin

I'm certainly not onboard with the idea of a collectors club. For one, it think it could take away from the ranges themselves and drain resources that could instead be put to use expanding the ranges. Why would First Legion want to devote thier time and efforts to special pieces just for FL aficionados? With the cost of each individual casting, I can't imagine this would be anywhere near cost-effective for the company. Secondly, doesn't each range lend itself to a narrow group of collectors anyway? I mean, with the slightly higher cost per figure of FL products, that means potentially fewer people are buying the figures. Isn't that in and of itself a sign of a type of collectors club?

I know some guys like the idea of exclusive figures and that is fine. But if Matt ever askes for a vote on the issue, I am a definite "no".

I would be all for a collectors club. I think it's a great idea.

Britains and Jenkins have CC's and it hasn't hurt them.

I might be interested if a collectors club had some different features. I'm not as interested in special figures unless they somehow fit into existing lines or are their own special line. I would be more interested in something that a) allowed the club to vote on certain figures to be produced only for the club or b) offered club members several different collector club figure "paths" to choose from (like a WWII, Nap, Roman line) or c) special discounts on existing figures. Like others have commented I have often checked the FL Specials section only to be disappointed by the lack of any offering. FL does also offer some Limited Edition figures, so it kind of seems like they have that avenue covered.

Hello and a warm welcome to the Forum and FL's little piece of it ,
All very good points concerning a possible collectors club , they are already taking way too much of my money but if they had a club and made a figure that I really wanted and couldn't buy elsewhere I'd most likely be on board as well :redface2:. Regards Gebhard

Maybe a club is exactly what is needed. FL is obviously on top of their game right now and making a ton of noise in this industry. Why not have a club with limited runs of special edition figures focused on the ranges that FL currently sells. I for one would be ecstatic to see a Marcus Aurelius figure made in a limited quantity for "The Glory of Rome" range and I'm sure collectors of the various other ranges could think of a couple names they would like to see produced as SL as well. I think Matt knows that he is definitely making waves with his superb products and I know from just reading responses that the fan base is there to support a CC. Its my understanding that Matt has no interest in this (basing this off a previous post) and I respect his decision since he knows better then I what it would take to establish such a thing. But if you are one of the best why not have a club for those that want to support the best?

I think that Matt does not have the. Infrastructure right now to organize a club. I think he is very focused on what he does best: wargaming with Napoleonics figures.

I am sorry. I meant to say: produce toy soldiers and continously improving the quality of the figures, working on new lines and all the other things toy soldier collectors dream of doing while sleeping.

Having said that, there is nothing wrong with some avid FL collectors creating a club with Matt's support and offering for example "Personality Figures in St. Petersburg Quality" for collectors.

I think that Matt already does collector's club figures. Maybe not with regularity, but with the releases of the mounted personalities from the Napoleonic range, Cornwallis, General Paulus, Generals Reynolds and Buford of the ACW. There are individual figures to buy. It is all in how you look at a collector's club. I have to admit that I would like a figure that my not fit neatly into the release lines, i.e. Royal Marines, Spanish Guerrillios, the list would be endless just for Napoleonic releases.

If they ever do a collectors club, They do not have to necessarily make a casting for a new figure, they could actually just make castings of older/ not available anymore pieces. And pick out 5 or 6 pieces and fill those orders every 4 to 6 moths out of the year , Just a one last time offer to collectors that did miss out on the pieces(all orders must be paid months before it is even shipped, to get it (definitely the French artillery, for me) ( so now they know how much to make, no extra inventory, no lost money), and have another set of offerings, after six months. Make one of the offerings be released around Christmas( that will definitle be a Merry time, once it is received), Just a thought.:smile2:

Good thoughts but I think most would want something completely different and limited.

Taking the painters off the product line for special releases slows down the release of new figures.

Pro or con Matt is against it.Majority doesn't always rule.{eek3}^&grin

First Legion, used to be a direct buy from them. Yes, they were making money. But, now any store that deals in our mid to high end hobby, Hobbyists is flocking probably more, because it is being offered at their favorite store, Because they have seen for themselves That FL has no equal with the quality, and beauty of their products.
Maybe, Matt will never change his mind. That is for the future to hold. And, I really do not like to make K&C An example, or even Wbritains. They have a loyal following. At any given night There are more Forum members/ visitors Looking at their Forum. Because maybe, Its because of the special pieces, that they provide each year. Has Them hooked and has their loyalty.
A short one or 2 years ago, I had a comment about branching out to stores, And a couple of forum members said it will never happen. But look at it now....
Nobody Can see The advantages of the future until its tried or discussed.
But, whatever That future Holds, If I have the Funds, First Legion will be the One I look at first.

I would just like to add my Twenty Cents worth. First Legion have brought something more for me to toy soldier collecting. Yes they are really great and I think just a little ahead of other brands with some things but I am a buyer of what I like no matter who makes it. I have spent my money over many makers and can't see this changing. Simmo.
