Thoughts on the latest offerings from Britains (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

I received the Club information or actually the teaser since I was slow to renue my membership this year and was wondering what you all thought of the new limited edition of the 1907 Half Booted Coldstream Guards Marching? I like that its glossy but I dont have too many cerimonila sets and was wondering who was interested in this set.

I am looking forward to the 93rd Highlander that will come in April or May from the Club it will be in good company with my Royal Fusiliers Defending the Colours set.

So lets talk a little more Britains.

Dave

Dave are there any pictures of these club sets anywhere? Speaking of Britains, last year I sold off all of my Britains matte Napoleonics and Rev War to buy some antique Britains and Mignot. One of the sets I sold , British 28th foot Regiment, sold for $162 yesterday on E-bay. I sold that set last year for $40. Guess you never know what these things will go for.

Hi jrsteel,

I have not seen any pictures yet of the two Britains Sets I mentioned I will see if I can find out when the web site will be updated because it is so totally out of date and has nearly nothing new posted on it. I will let you know if I find it anywhere.

Dave

A pictures is worth a thousand words.....Matte or Gloss.....The Lt.

Love those old Sanderson figures - some of the best ever made Lt. Have painted two sets over the last thirty years - one matte and one gloss...

Damian - some excellent observations. Appreciate the well reasoned and thought through responses from you and everyone else here.

Thank you to Dave for getting this thread going. It has been really enjoyable reading it all. Keep it coming.

Per Dave's request about the website - we are finally at work on it - embarrassed it has take a over a year (a couple other things on the plate and few curve balls last year) ! For all those interested I am going to start another thread on what you all would like to see as part of the site. Of course we have many ideas and a rough lay out started - but you all have had excellent ideas and are obvisouly web savvy, so would appreciate any and all feedback.

I might be the onlyone that still likes marching sets and though I at this time do not have any Britains, here is what will get me to buy some...Glossy Zulu War ( militia, home guard, natal native units ), 6 pc.Napoleonic Matte finish marching sets.( any Highlander, Prussian, Old Guard )..WW1 old style glossy ( better sculpting and color than the pre Ken stuff...) Michael

Had a quick look at what we have in store for 2007, looks good...
Sorry to say i only have room for for one period and that is WW2, although new WW1 models and others are looking better than ever...

For WW2 would like to see flame thrower teams, German romote control tank (golliat), bofors anti aircraft gun, relaxed marching soldiers and some trucks the backbone of mobile transport.

Not to get boxed in on the box subject, but i feel the current boxes scratch too easily and are a bit to refined for my taste. Sure i do not want to pay more dollars or euros for that matter for them but i am sure a stronger more resiliant box can be created for the same price.

By the way would love to have a spell check for this forum page.

regards
andrew

Andrew,

We do have spell check. It's on the right side of the page, upper right hand corner.

:) Hello Guy's! I didn't say that you have to go with the 1/30th Scale Size; as I said before, when some one made a Remark about the First Release of Collector's Showcase , that the figure's was too Large; I then Disagreed with them , because every Collector, should collect whatever Size Figure's, of their Choice! This is a Free Country, Freedom of Democracy! My two Cents in this Britains, concern for survival, in the Future Toy Industry suggests that Mr. Richard Walker, should at Least try to satisfy the Traditional Collector's Scale 54mm, and if possible run a NEW 58mm, Scale Size for the Collector's, who prefer Larger 58MM, or a 1/30th Size! This may enhance , for the NOW and Future existance of Britains, to get or become NO.1, in the Toy Market! But Andy, will always be NO.1!

I agree that every collector should collect whatever size figures he or she wants, but what was posted by several people was the fact that the first releases of Collector's Showcase are closer to 1/24th scale or over 70 mm from feet to eye level. This makes the first Collector's Showcase figures and equipment much larger than K&C.:(
