Hello,

I,ve been reading peoples post for a while now and I enjoy very much reading all the different comments.
It is nice to see all the contrasting opinions, even when it get a bit heated sometimes, so thank you all.

I feel like I would like join in and to start a topic.

Not sure where to put this, so I’m posting in the Britains section because they are my favourites.

My Favourite soldiers to collect are:
Britains Zulu
Britain’s War along the Nile
John Jenkins Sudan
King and Country ACW Confederates.

Whilst it’s a bit frustrating that I can’t buy many of these series lately for what ever reason, I think I will continue to wait.
I’m sure that will get some comments.

Anyway, to start off a conversation,
I will say that because people can’t get the type of figures they want on a particular series, they will start buying another series from the same or with a different manufacturer because they just need to buy figures every week or so. It's a nice drug.
The problem is they will end up with too many types to collect and can’t display them all.
What to do ?
Collect so much of a type and then sell them when you come to a dead end so you can buy something different, sit tight and wait for new ones of what you collect, or just keep going with different types and run out of room. If the later then most thing are just kept in boxes in the loft and that is a shame.
We all need unlimited funds and space.

Good conversation topic Rob. What to do certainly trumps what cannot be done :).
The War on the Nile and Sudan ranges have yet a lot of room for dioramas. And the whole Khartoum drama is worth a series like UKREB has done with ACW. Some great scenes in the movie for inspiration. So while you wait, have fun by adding to your enjoyment of what you already have. Some sand and rocks from the local hardware can open an adventure for a few dollars. Then you can get ambitious and put dhows on the river...etc etc

There are currently no plans by K & C to make more ACW, although that could change. If you wish to collect Civil War, your best bet is probably Britains, although their output in that area has decreased.

I recently sold 5000 metal U.S. Civil War figures to Crown Miniatures(every/all makes known to mankind).
You might be amazed and astounded...they were a hoot to collect.

I too have of late seriously considered selling off my 2000 plus ACW collection as it would appear that TS releases for my two main collecting eras both ACW and Alamo have slowed to a snails pace in fact almost ground to a halt. Like many other collectors on the forum I too am puzzled at the lack of WB releases this past year and Ken's continued silence on the matter has become deafening.

At the K&C dinner in Melbourne, Australia last year I had a long chat with Andy who assured me he had no further plans to release any more ACW figures even though I tried to butter him up by truthfully telling him that I considered his ACW mounted Confederates to be amongst the finest figures in my collection.

I also collected all of Matt's fine FL ACW lines- that is up to his last release of Union Infantry. For me at £64.00 a pop for just right shoulder-shift posed boys in blue was a little too rich for me. I thought he had mined a rich vein when he released his Mass Battle Rebs at the more reasonable price of £34.00 per unit. Because with a little repaint and some discreet shading one could get them pretty darn close to the full priced Rebs from previous FL releases. Unfortunately Matt seems to have given up on the idea-Great pity.

But back to the WB much promised but not yet released ACW figures. Frustrating yes but what gripes me more is that with the last three or four years releases the majority of the figure poses are just slight variants of the same. In my collection I have literally dozens of flag bearers/marching/advancing/charging/firing/casualty/artillerist posed figures- so much so that I simply don't want/require anymore of the same. Where are all the innovative "action poses" as seen in the early Conte Blue & Gray series of which Ken sculpted many of the originals?

For over ten years here on the forum I have enjoyed constructing a hundred or so ACW dioramas that have covered all the main clashes/battles/meetings/incidents of the Eastern Theatre of the war. But now I have reached the point where I am devoid of ideas without repeating what I have already depicted-in fact I have covered Gettysburg four times already. Certainly not helped by the continuous same poses being released each year and I fully understand and appreciate that new collectors will be happy with such releases. But for veteran collectors looking for something a little different......keep wishing and hoping Reb...... as I simply don't have the inclination to start collecting any other era until I off-load my current collection.

I’m not sure why. The manufacturers have shown an increasing disinclination to make American Civil War figures. We received a good release last year from First Legion but we may not see another for awhile.

Bob's note made me wince. :(

I'm having the same reaction. Bob you're too good a diorama creator to be off the boards in this hobby. And I always look forward to your presentations, and that's what I thought I'd see when I got to this reply. I hope it isn't a permanent setback Bob, as I find you, as well as others on the forum inspirational. But, I guess it's part of some growing frustration I've noticed in the hobby.:({sm2}

Hi Bob

I understand you completely. I also do not understand what is going on with W.B. I had a talk at the December London show with his wife and a lot of ACW is coming in the new Catalogs! even the Limber with horses finally. But I have to see it first. I would be sad if you stop your ACW collection. I have always enjoyed your dioramas very much. let us hope that W.B keep their word and that we can soon enjoy a few new figures crossing 🤞 fingers.
