So,
I just saw the movie, and it is going on my list as one of the top 5 movies I have EVER seen! For those Tintin fans out their (I am a diehard Tintin geek), this is a great film. All the characters are PERFECT, perfect looks, perfect voices, perfect movements, perfect character traits, perfect styles of fighting and behavior. The plot is mostly true to the books, with slight adaptions to include memorable parts from other books, making for a great treasure hunt for the Tintin fan. Watch the detail! The animation is THE BEST I have ever seen, and definitely see the 3D, it is the only time I have seen that it makes the movie 10x better. There are many screenshots that are actual frames from the books, so it is very cool- the transitions are priceless! {bravo}}{bravo}}

And Snowy... is just so CUTE!{sm4}

Happy Xmas - Snowy and friends^&grin

Going to see it next week with the family! I have the entire collection of Tintin books and collect the Tintin Atlas cars too :)

Until then since Santa it's still not here in the Pacific Northwest:

I have a third of the books in English, and EVERY SINGLE book in French. I have a couple figures and a couple cars. The cars are quite nice, and I usually get 1-2 for Christmas. Who made those figures J-B? And Merry Christmas to all!

Not sure who made them Sandor, but they were bought a couple of years ago from a vendor in a Street Market in South West France. The market is seasonal - and doesn't start up again until about May - and finishes around September. I think the vendor brings them in form overseas - so am not sure where they are actually made. My eldest daughter collects them. If I find out more (next time I visit the market) I'll let you know. jb

I never read the books when I was a kid and maybe that colors my reaction but we saw the movie tonight and it has to be one of the deadliest movies I've ever seen. The animation is terrific but the movie seems devoid of passion. The review I read last week was not kind but I was hoping it was in error. I was sadly incorrect.

Interesting: non-TinTin fans seem to not like it, as do mild fans/fans who don't understand exactly who Herge was and what his books were meant to mean, but hardcore Tintin fans have given it great reviews- this article captures my sentiments:

"Movie Review From Jane Taylor

The quiff in the mirror, also that glimpse of Snowy's hind legs something Hergé himself used frequently. Tintin's voice correcting the stall holder, yes it is Tintin, !< he knows everything! >!! And later when he says "It's not for sale". Okay, we may be having difficulties with Tintin's face but the voice is just right.
As the story unfolds and you get comfortable with the pace, you drop the assumption that it is about the adventure "Secret of the Unicorn" and once you understand it is about the spirit of the adventure. Just like that secret quality a Tintin book holds, you really enjoy it, it is funny, it is clever, it is visually pleasing. All those ingenious twists and intricacies that Hergé wove into the stories are acknowledged in the film, from those scenes of the mirage moving from the Unicorn ploughing though the desert sands into the high seas-dreamlike, one of Hergé's own favourite ingredients.
The characters, Captain Haddock portrayed as fearless with a large dose of old softie! The Thompson's well... so annoying and Castafiore introducing Sakharine as Sugar Additive!! And Snowy - the Star! The scene at Ben Salad's palace, peopled and decorated with many references to the other Tintin Adventures.
For me this film paid homage to Hergé's style, the essence that makes a Tintin adventure so enthralling and so readable again and again. Mister Spielberg and Mister Jackson did really well and we are grateful to them for being so respectful to our your hero!"

I have never read or new anything about TinTin until the movie came out. My family and I saw it today and we all had a great adventure. A great film and a must own on DVD. Simmo.

I saw it on Thursday night...

Loved the books,

got the Tee Shirts

got the DVDs

LOVED the movie

John

There were some Tintin figures on sale at the December show in London, by Good Soldiers if I recall correctly. I spotted some similar on e-bay recently, so perhaps that's one shop window in between shows.

Just saw it today with family and we loved it. Spielberg did an awesome job with rendering the best of Hergé's books (the movie combines multiple books stories) and his characters! Haddock is outstanding. Looking forward to the sequel!

My sentiments exactly! Did you notice how they changed the Legion Etranger to be an accurate representation for that time, as opposed to how Herge did it? I thought all the historical things were very well done, with the exception of Castafiore's 3rd world comment, a nomenclature which of course had not yet been invented.

Yes, it was well done on every aspect. Don't you think that Sakharine looked like Spielberg :wink2:
