Just pre-ordered this book ''Totenkopf Tigers'' By Wolfgang Schneider. I have seen a copied section of this and it looks superb over 448 pictures Hard cover format of this division in action et al with battle orders colour plates etc. Available in August a great book if you are interested in Tigers and the 3rd SS division. Its £84 and a little pricy but, looks well worth the investment

Mitch, do you know if this book/author/publisher has a connection to the book "Das Reich Tigers"? I haven't checked but it sounds like it might. -- Al

Wolfgang also did the book on the Das Reich tigers as you rightly state. It was also a superb book so, expect a similar format and content.

Thanks, Mitch. I guess I will have to get on the ball and save up for both of them. Keep spending money on TS and neglecting the reading material.:redface2: -- Al

They do get in the way!!! But, the books, for me, is always a priority

Mitch, since you are a big book man (as I am, or used to be), I'm sure you know about www.rzm.com, a military book publisher/distributor. He has a large selection of WW2 publications. I just checked out the site and he has the Totenkopf Tigers title along with several other brand new related type titles. He has a brand new translation titled "Demolishing the Myth: The Tank Battle at Prokhorovka", authors Valeriy Zamulin and Stuart Britton. Looks good. -- Al

I have quite a few publications from them the best being the six Kursk series from the war correspondents. I have the Zamulin book and previewed it a little while back in the book section on here. Its slanted towards the russian side but, is a good addition to the ever growing kursk library and, does tackle some of the fanciful writings surrounding this battle

I somehow missed or forgot the preview you wrote. Sorry for being redundant.:redface2: I am working on putting the 6 volume Kursk series together. I currently lack #1 and 4. Volume 1 is OOP but RZM tells me that a reprint is likely. I am too cheap to pay retail so I have been purchasing off remainder lists at $10 per volume. Just have to be patient and I will get the others. Lots of books I would like to get but prices for them are as bad as prices for TS.{eek3}:wink2: -- Al

No need for apologies. I have seen volume 1 going for £250 in the UK as its out of print. Could not understand why this was done to a popular set of books but, good news that they may be coming again should save people a lot of money.

I think your strategy is rather sensible and will save plenty in the long run. I am too impatient when wanting books and could save long term but, always dive in when I see them much worse than TS.

There are some quite affordable pictoral books at the moment that I think are excellent one on the Totenkopf and two by Kriegsberichter that may be of interest

SS Totenkopf France 1940 Campaign and photo diary by Eric Leferve in French and english text

SS PK Roth
Kriegsberichter Franz Roth

Kriegsberichter Augustin

The last two by Trang have about 1100 pictures of the SS premier divisions in action on all the major fronts they fought and are amazing with many new photos never seen before

I have also pre-ordered this book and look forward to getting my hands on it shortly. "Das Reich Tigers" was an excellent book and if this matches that book it should be great.

Since we're talking about Wolfgang Schneider I highly recommend the book "Panzertaktik". It explains German small unit armor tactics and is packed full of wonderful pictures. Schneider also authored "Tigers in Combat I" and "Tigers in Combat 2" although those two are out of print. I believe the Stackpole reprints are still available. I sourced the original Fedorowicz hardcover editions in the second hand book market (they cost a mint too).

One thing I have to say about JJ Fedorowicz Publishing is the quality of the books it consistantly high. I'm not only referring to the content but the construction of the books from paper to binding to printing is simply excellent. These books don't start falling apart after being perused a few times. They may cost more but to me you get what you pay for. I have approximately 30 titles published by them.

Here is a link to their current books.

Have to agree about it being the whole package and would rather pay more and get the quality. I thought that about the Ullrich book about the Totenkopf ''like a cliff in the ocean'' which, is still IMO one of the best books about 3rd SS I have read

I think their books are extremely well done. I just have trouble breaking the cash loose for books since the ones I want all seem to cost $95-$110. I would love to get the Das Reich and Totenkopf Tiger books as well as the volumes on Kharkov and Kursk. The multi-volume history of the Das Reich Division is also on the wish list. I used to have the Leibstandarte 5 volume history but sold that.:redface2: I am going to work on those Tiger books. -- Al

just recieved Totenkopf tigers today. Have to say its just sublime!!!!!
