Ok, as I am always going through boxes I have and or have picked up, need some help on identification!

1. World War 1 Imperial German Band - approx 54mm Gloss. No Markings, came from a collection that was nearly 100% manufacturer makers, no homecast. The finish is professional , but it is a maker unknown to me.

2. Definitely Repainted Britains, just don't know from which set or Vintage?

3. Mess Dress series, not Sarum, Caberdeigh. Thought it may be a Rose Casting, but it is a large 54mm. So not sure. Paint finish is definitely professional.

4. Brit Seaforth Highlander, definitely has an oval base that looks familiar, just at a loss on the maker!

Any help, always appreciated!
Tom

Tom, for the German band, I first thought of new dimestore conversions, till I read that they're 54mm. They're certainly painted in a style reminiscent of Barclay or Manoil. I know of no commercial manufacturer who made anything like them; my suspicion is that they're homemade, conversions from some commercial figures used as masters or of figures from commerically available molds. I'll have to do some digging, to see if I can find anything like them.

Nr. 3 sure does make me think of a conversion of a Rose figure; the base is a Rose base, in any case. Gammage's kit figures lend themselves wonderfully to conversions with very little effort, because of the interchangeable heads and limbs. It's easy to use heads from other makers, and even 54mm resin heads a la Hornet, on Rose bodies. But I'll have to take a look at my Rose castings and compare to your photo, to see if I can back up my argument.

Prost!

1. I wonder if the band could have any tie into the eyes right series made by Britains, (perhaps used to copy certain parts) The arms look very Britains like and especially the bass drummers from what I can recall.

2. As you say is Britains, the two guys should be carrying a ladder between them. Which can then be used for the guy with the brush. I think it was made pre-war as advertising for a specific company then put into the main catalogue after the war. (I will double check this for you though)

4. Looks like it could be a repaint of an early Britains figure or perhaps Johillco ^&confuse

On Nr. 1, I think you may be right, Scott, I can picture the bass drummer from the series.

Prost!

I agree with yall on 1,2 and 3. #4 is escaping me, the base is definitely familiar, could it be an early Dorset? Although I think the oval is too large. It definitely is more vintage 70s, 80s, I just have drawn a blank. Maybe it is older and was thrown in.

The German band is cool, just not my collection! The Britains came in an Under 2 Flags lot so that makes sense in that they were redone. I think 3 is a Rose Conversion, just larger than what I remember.

Thanks!
Tom

This is probably a stretch because the face is wrong but on number 4 the base looks like K & C glossy, as does the rest of the body, except the head.

The German band might very well have been done by the late Walt Dineen of Palm Beach, FL. He passed away in the early '90s, I believe. I have seen a couple of his sets at various shows. His eye paintings on the figures are a strong indication that these are Walt's creation. He was also well known to have produced bands as well. You might want to google his name to find out further information...

Good suggestion. I have an Erickson Indian Army cavalryman painted by Walt, though it's in a slightly different style than this German band. But not a bad suggestion at all.

Prost!
