Hello all...I'm going to be in Manhattan, my former residence, this weekend and I was wondering whether there are any retail stores in Manhattan (can't make it to the outer boroughs or Long Island) left that still sold toy soldiers?

If any one knows, I'd appreciate any leads you've got.

Thanks,

Mark

From what I have seen in prior threads Burlington Toy Soldiers is the only one left. It is on Madison avenue in the basement of a book store

Yes, Burlington Antique Toys is located on Madison Avenue between 80th and 81st or 81st and 82nd on the westside of the street in the basement of a book store.

Thanks, all. I remember there used to be one in the West Village. I'm new to the hobby, so I wasn't collecting at the time, but it was always nice to look.

Now that I've started collecting, I've done it almost entirely over the internet, whether it was from the Treefrog store or other places. I guess that's the general trend of the economy with Amazon, and I appreciate the convenience, variety and pricing the internet allows...but it sure would be nice to go to a store and see soldiers on display.

It does seem strange to me that in New York, where I'm from, and Los Angeles, where I live now...there are few if any stores that sell Toy Soldiers. Manhattan real estate is expensive, the economy is bad...and with the size of people's living spaces it makes collecting/displaying difficult. With LA I'm not sure why...I know there are some stores on the outskirts.

I'm quite excited to go to the West Coast show, though. It's not that close given traffic in LA, but it should be well worth the trip to see figures up close and personally interact with fellow collectors. If they are half as nice as everyone has been on here it should be a great experience.

Mark,

The store you remember in the Village was Classic Toys, which used to be located on Sullivan Street, between Bleecker and West 3rd, one of the truly great brick and mortar old fashioned toy stores, owned by one of our friends on this forum, Gideon Rettich. Sadly, do to the unbelieveably high rents in NYC, Classic Toys closed in NYC shop, converted first to an internet store, and recently opened a brick and mortar shop in Philadelphia, Pa.
