Business for me. We have meetings the week of the 11th but will be in Munich the weekend and then in Milan for part of the following week.

Brad - Not sure on the Toy Soldier Shops the both times I was in Munich this year - I couldnt find any - I really didnt research it that hard - just looked around while walking in the City.

There are great Cigar Shops though :D

Where are you staying?

Hi Guys,

Thats a difficult question to answer for the shops I will see if I can come up with anything for you, I have some friends over there so maybe they'll know. I do know that there was a store in Rothenburg ab der Tauber which is a beautiful walled city that was never sacked during the 100 Years War that had militaria toy soldiers and old books. I picked up a 2d edition of Rommels book there and a couple of sets of Tradition soldiers there. Of course this was in the early 90s so its hard to tell what may still be in business. Milan should be nice, good food and lots of sun. I would ask the K&C folks if they have any dealers in Munchen they may also know who is selling soldiers over there.

Have a fun trip

All the best

Dave

Dave and Ron,

Thanks for your help. There don't appear to be any K & C dealers in the vicinity. I found one place although I'm not sure what they have, called Traudl's Modellbauladen. Worse to worse, I can just ask at the hotel where I'm staying. Doesn't sound like there are any, however.

I'm not sure where I'm staying as the business folks are making the arrangements.

Hi Brad,

The place you named is a model building shop by literal translation so it stands to reason they will either have some figures or know who does. Like I mentioned earlier if you can find any antique shops selling Militaria you will probably have some luck there too. When do you depart?

All the best

Dave

Dave,

Thanks again for your help. I will be departing on June 10, arriving the next day, and will be there all week.

Regards,

Hi Brad,

I found a small lead maybe, there is a place that sells the Elastolin and Hausser and other Tin figures flats etc. Its called the Antik Kaufhaus it appears to be a flea market type place so I dont know what they may or may not have. The kicker is its in Dachau which is north of Munich on B304 Also called Dachauer Strasse. The web address is www.antik-kaufhaus.de
The website is in German but if you have a grasp of basic german you should be able to look around on it. I will talk to a german friend of mine this weekend and see if they have any notion since her daughters are still living there.

I will keep looking and see what I can find but it appears to be very limited. But Munich is a big town so you never know what you might stumble on too.

All the best

Dave

Dave,

Thanks very much. Hopefully, something will turn up. It would be fun to go to a toy soldier shop overseas.

.......But Munich is a big town so you never know what you might stumble on too.

Now Dave- why did I know I was going to see you post up here?????:D I know there are some stories behind that statement!!!

I lived in Nuremburg from 1979-82. I was a young lad then and remember all sorts of toy soldier shops around Germany. Don't be afraid to stop in at train or hobby shops- they may have something there.

Something to note- they love the Zinfiguren there. Also, WW2 items, kind of taboo- if you are looking for the WS 35 (Hitler) figure, chance are, you probably won't find it. They sold a ton of Britains Deetail figures and regular Britains gloss. Plastic figures are really popular- especially the middle ages figures. I am willing to bet though, if you find a shop, you will be blown away. You will also find something pretty unique to which you will be able to cherish for awhile.

Not up on German geography- certainly Dachau is a stop you will never EVER forget- I was there and still remember it. If you get a chance though try to hit Rotenburg on de tauber (on the river). Outside of Nuremburg, that was EASILY my favorite place in Germany and one of my favorite places still to this day.I don't know how far it is from Munich though.

I also remember seeing one of Patton's staff cars there too- at some military history museum there. If you get a chance look around for those as well.

And Neunschewanstein (SP????)- a most beautiful castle!!!

Let us know how it goes!!
