I am sure that many collectors out there besides myself are having problems with all of the boxes piling up from all of the high quality soldiers and vehicles which have been acumulated over the last years of collecting.The plus side of keeping all of the original boxes far outweighs the negative side.....taking up room ! Anyone have some practical or innovative ideas as far as storing these boxes is concerned ?
I make it a point to display behind glass everything that I buy. If I can't see it I don't need it , while others are content keeping their collections boxed up in the closet. What to do with all of the boxes ^&confuse

Hi Panzer,

Since we move a lot due to the job I have been using a couple of old footlockers that work very well for transporting the filled boxes of soldiers and it helps keep all the boxes neatly out of the way in the storage room. The footlockers I have are pretty big more like old Steamer trunks but because they have nice straight sides unlike tuff boxes or other plastic containers the boxes fit very well and you can store a large number. I also have several dishpacks from the movers that are pretty tough cardboard and also hold a large number of boxes. These all stack nicely in my small storage room.

I've been thinking about renting one of those storage units for the boxes, as well as other assorted stuff we have.

Currently mine are all boxed in boxes in the basement. I am finding the clamshell packaging by Britains has really helped with storage.

The littlest box goes into the next size box - which goes into the next box ............which goes into the next ..Doh! Run out of boxes!

I have a large closet in the basement which is just for string TS boxes. I place them in large boxes and stack the boxes to the ceiling of the closet

If you are storing boxes in a basement/cellar or any area with humidity use a dehumidifier. Try to keep boxes off the floor where they can absorb moisture and pick up more dust.
Many of my old Trophy boxes were ruined when I stored them in a basement without dehumidifiers....some mold as well. Don't store them in a garage!

I store mine in the attic. Someone posted a while back that that is not good. Well I just retreived some boxes for a sale and they have been in the attic for years and they were just fine.
I will say this, storage has become such a problem that it has led to cutting back on purchases along with the price increases.

It sounds like a good idea and I've done it. But man, those monthly storage fees add up and become annoying after awhile; especially when you think you could have bought more toy soldiers.

Solution...move to Texas and buy a bigger house, LOL.

The obvious choice if the home does not permit storage space I guess would be one of the local storage facilities. {eek3}

Crown Military Miniatures offers storage trays and cases that really helps optimize space and makes transportation of figures quick and easy. It doesn't help resolve storage for original boxes, but I have found them a lifesaver...worth checking out.

Seriously - it isn't a problem for me - because I buy castings and paint them myself ,to keep. The only ones I do part with - are gifts for special friends - and I always keep a duplicate of them!

If they do come in a box - I bin it. My only storeage problem then, is to work out where to keep my ever-growing collection - and so far - I just buy another display cabinet - and maximise the shelf space in them by getting new glass shelves made, to match those already in them. On the rare occasion that I cannot resist a boxed soldier - I keep the boxes ( inside each other where possible - like russian dolls). inside a large old suitcase in my attic space.

So far - so good - and just another benefit of purchasing castings and painting them yourself. johnnybach

Attic, thats what its for!!! I also have never had any problem with boxes in the loft as thats where most of the collection and books etc is

Wooden storage shelves (cheap ones) from IKEA in the basement. Large AFV or scenery boxes are directly on the shelves. Smaller boxes of figure sets or single figures are in banker's boxes. The boxes are sorted by manufacturer and then by range. The empty boxes are not nearly as much of a problem as the too full display cases - the limiting factor is the number of figures and AFVs and not the boxes they came in.

I am building a large Diorma. Since the surface will be off the floor 3 feet (or so) there is a ton of space under the display table. Good for boxes and diorama building tools and supplies. So far holds all the K&C AWI little boxes and 60% of the meduim ones

Plus, I built shelves/cabinets up at the ceiling level, in my hobby room for the larger ones. Whoever uses the space up there anyway, other than the cat??? Just a suggestion.

I store the boxes in the attic and have not had a problem as of yet.
