Hello guys,
I am new to this forum.

I have bought recently several sets made by Mark Time in 1970s. I was told that this company was very short-lived but made some interesting sets.

Maybe you can help me with some info about this company and a list of sets they had made.

I enclosed pictures of one set.

Thank you for posting the pics. I have never seen them before. Do you have any more sets?

I just found this from an ebay auction: MARK TIME "CITY IMPERIAL VOLUNTEERS" MIB. Mar Time was shortlived British toy soldiers company that made a lot interesting sets, soldiers usually had moving arms. Company trademark was strange looking boxes. These sets are quite scarce.

Here's the link to the auction .

Are you boerboy or boereseun

Just a 'boerboy'. Am I in trouble?:)

I collect stuff related to the Anglo-Boer War (Anglo-Boereoorlog or Tweede Vryheidsoorlog) and many other toys as well.

I have 5 or 6 Marktime sets. I will post their pictures in a couple of days.

The MK set I did not like I put on eBay (where you saw it) , and I will keep the others.

Boereseun is Afrikaans for your boerboy. I was wondering whetehr or not you were a South Africsan living abroad. That is why I asked

It explains, Damian :) .. I have a few friends who had to moved from SA to the States in last 6-7 years.

BTW do you know a small SA toy shop called "Colonial Factor"

http://www.netfocus.co.za/toysoldiers/.

They have some cool stuff I would like to order, for example "SOUTH AFRICAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICES BAND" :)
but I am not sure of their models quality.

Mark Time was only around for four years, 1976-1980. Peter Cowan, who later started Kingcast, was a founder. He was joined by Andrew Rose in 1978. Rose was involved in Steadfast at that time. Rose later sculpted the Nostalgia, Bastion and Wessex lines.

Mark Time figures were produced in small sets with four ( or five) figures. The labels were unique to each set and appared to be "hand drawn" to my eye. They are not in very much demand with the possible exception of a Royal Engineer balloon set. I believe Peter Cowan produced a similar set for his Kingcast line.

Is there any thing that you do not know? Where do you get all this info?

My wife says I have a captain of the world syndrome. I read a lot, remember a lot, and I am very detailed oriented. Some would call it a...l retentive. However, I do not know squat about old toy soldiers, composition figures, dimestores, Heyde, etc.

We all wish to specialize in something you seem to do well on the new stuff which is the period that I like the best.

I have some soldiers that have a trade mark of the male symbol with an M inside it. I think it would be Mars. Any ideas? Also IBMM made in the late eighties? All Civil War stuff and glossie.

You are correct, the first trade mark is Mars Limited. I met the owner, a Mr Weeks, once at the Chicago Show many years ago, just before he passed away and the line disappeared. He had made a set of U.S. Air Force Security Police; I was trying to find a set for my son who was serving with that unit. BTW, I have a Mars price list somewhere. If you describe what you have, I may be able to identify the set or sets for you.

I can't say I recognize IBMM. Can you send a photo of the figures?

I did not see your post before. The Colonial Factor is Iain Stewart who produces toy soldier bands with a South African theme. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of SA militaria but is extremely cantankerous. He has a website. It is listed on WM Hocker's resource page

The IBMM stuff is taller than the Mars stuff. Has a rounded base that fits aroound the feet . Finished in a semi gloss, but I will soon fix that. Actually the Mars soldiers are very nice I have a lot of ACW sets for rifles and confederates and union and artillery figures as well. Take a look at my ACW thread

Which ACW tread? You are very prolific.

I don't recognize the sculpting, the faces, or the poses. You got me on IBMM. I notice the initials "T.C." BTW, I hope you decide not to describe the Mars ACW sets you have. He had 330 sets in his line, many of which were ACW, and I don't really have any photos. He favored units from Texas and surrounds. He also produced some unusual sets like number 169 - Mexican Army 39th Inf. Bn, 1926 or 170 - King Kalakaua I (Hawaii) Royal Guard, full dress, 1886.

Maybe we should start a Mars thread. They really are well done.
