Guys,

There are some changes in the arrangements that the Hyatt has with various transportation companies. This year, only All Star Cab (888-533-4240, $27 flat fee one way) and American Cab (847-253-4411, $31.50 flate fee one way) are listed as choices from O'Hare. There is no need to make an advance reservation, just call the listed number after picking up luggage at O'Hare and mention flat fee to Hyatt Regency Woodfield. You can still arrange for a town car or limo through Viatas (800-421-0607), but the price has gone up ($55 single, $43 shared according to Hyatt). Call the 800 number to arrange or you will not get the $55 rate. The on-line reservation, though convenient, will only list a $63 flat rate for single ride.:)

Thank you for the info but I thought last year Viatas was in the 20s or 30. What happened. Also will the hotel's chosen cabs pick you up at the Hyatt at a set time so you can make your flight?

I just called Viatas directly and they say the Hyatt is mistaken and that the Hyatt transportation link should list them. They still have an arrangement and it is a very good deal. $26 plus tip one way between O'Hare and the Hyatt -- I have just reserved a roundtrip to the airport. HOWEVER, you need to call 800-421-0607 to make advance reservations and to ask for this rate. You cannot get it through Viatas' website or through the Hyatt's concierge.

There are usually a line of American Cabs outside the Hyatt as they appear to be the local cab company for the Schaumberg region.:)

I used Viatas last year thanks to Steven and was very pleased.

Ditto. There is also Mr. Chauffeur but Steven said they had raised their rates and recommended Viatas.
Mr. Chauffeur was the limo company listed on the Hyatt transportation link two years ago. Last year (which also coincided with the Hyatt ownership change), the listed limo company was Viatas. I do find it odd that a town car or limo ride is cheaper than a taxi and that is not taking into account the ability to make an advance reservation. I think the arrangement is that in return for the flat rate from O'Hare, the Hyatt will refer all their guests needing limo service to Viatas.:)

If I understood well, we should not take a regular taxi from the airport?

For those staying at the Chicago Marriott Woodfield (across the street from the Hyatt at the mall), Viatas does the same, I just booked my one way, thanks Steven!

I figured I would worry about that later b/c probably leaving from the hyatt!

If you simply get into an All Star, American or regular Chicago taxi in the taxi queue, you will be charged on the regular meter and the cost for a one way trip will be more than $60. The cost of a metered cab trip is easily double the flat rate taxi or limo cost, something I found out the first time I went to the Chicago Show many years ago.

If you want to use a taxi to the Hyatt and want the most reasonable rate, you need to call the telephone numbers noted in my first post after you pick-up your luggage, tell them you want the flat rate trip to the Hyatt and confirm the prices I have listed (I once had a driver try to charge me $10 more), then go to the pick-up spot they designate.

Again, if you simply go to the taxi queue and say you are going to the Hyatt Regency Woodfield in Schaumberg, the taxi you get, which will probably be All Star, will charge you based on their meter.

Hope this helps.:)

Tom,
I hope you bring a portable luggage cart to bring your daily purchases back to your room ... the pedestrian light on that 6 lane street separating the Hyatt from the mall is only about 20 seconds ... anything you drop becomes "finders keepers.":D

Of course, feel free to store your purchases in my Hyatt room during the day.:)

I think I'll be right behind him, just to make sure he doesn't drop any valuable K & C glossy finds :p

Tom will probablly have to hitch hike back to the airport as he will have spent all his money at the show!

Thanks for the votes of confidence.........friends.............:D:D:D

Actually, I plan on violating Pat's rule number 5 every day by about lunchtime!!!!!

Seriously, Steven, thanks, but I have to leave on a Sunday night flight at 7pm, I couldn't swing the extra day away as it is Yom Kippur and the wife would be screaming!!! I tried to explain I could land by 10AM, but that didn't work!

Brad, keep your hand off my glossies..........~!!!!!

Gary, hydration will keep me fleet of feet!

All joking aside, I found it a great pain 10 years ago going back and forth between the Hyatt and the AmeriSuites several times a day with my purchases (this is the time before the convenient K&C cloth bags), so feel free to store your stuff in my room.:)

Any interest in sharing a limo? I am arriving Wednesday morning and leave Saturday evening. Any volunteers, please e-mail me.

Not if you can help it. I live about 15 miles west of Schaumburg and I always take a limo to the airport as opposed to a taxi, they're cheaper.
