Treefrog Forum just shy of 1400 members! (1 Viewer)

We're at 1397 now, just a couple more and we hit another milestone!
That membership number is deceiving, unfortunately. Over 340 members of that number have not signed in to even visit since 2007 or before and many more are not active in posting at all. Actual active membership is far less than 1400. Maybe the rolls should be purged to give us a more accurate idea of the active membership. JMO. -- lancer

Understood, that same point was raised when we reached 1000. But it's still a nice, round number, and worthy of at least one "Prosit!"

So, prosit!

At any rate, I sure enjoy the h*** out of being one of the 1400.:D Salute! -- Al

I was just scanning the entire membership list yesterday and it,s true there seems to be more inactive members than active.

I hate to purge the rolls based on activity--you'd be surprised at how often I get emails requesting username and password information from people that haven't signed into their account in a long time. I'm sure a lot of those people follow the forum without signing in and finally decide they want to actually post something and need to ask for their login info again.

It is exciting to see the growth of the forum.

I understand that. I followed this forum for over a year before I finally joined. But I figured that a member that hasn't bothered to sign in even to visit in 3 or so years (and there are about 150 of them) just wasn't interested anymore. That said, I don't guess it would be worth the time or trouble to purge the lists. I'm just glad to be able to read and post with those that are interested in the hobby. -- lancer

I agree! Never let an opportunity pass to raise a cold one. ;)

I wonder how many join to be able to post something for sale and then after it's sold vanish. :(

I'm a member of several other forums and they require a minimum amount of post before you are able to sell. This keeps the "users" away. One thing that I would like to see stop is members listing items for sale where they will sell to the highest offer. IMHO this should not be allowed. They can use ebay for that.

That said, I be the first to admit that I have recieved much more in the way of knowledge and information about toy soldiers that I have given. I also try to help others when I can or pass on what others have taught or shown me. ;)

Very valid, about folks who have registered to be able to post about items for sale, or an upcoming show.

There's a guy who surfaces once or twice a year, I think he's "LVTrains" or something similar, and he announces a "toy soldier show" held here in the Valley. I don't think he checks back again until the the next year, the week before the next show, and he doesn't seem to respond when we post with questions for him about the show.

The show is actually an antique toy show, by the way. And not the Allentown Antique Toy Show, either, but a much smaller one, held at a different venue.

Prost!

I just had a problem with one of those who had only one post a "for sale" post. He contacted me relative to an add I had on the classified. He stated he would buy, I put it aside, and never heard back from him.

I have never seen one of those posts here. All I have seen simply offer their items for a price or occassionally just ask for an offer but not a bid.

What does 'Prosit' mean???? :confused::confused:

Brad, if I am wrong you can kick me.:)

"Prosit" is the German equivalent of cheers and used with beer.

"Prost" is short for "Prosit".

"Zum Wohl" is used with wine/champagne.

Cheers, Raymond.:D:p;)

Hi guys,
You never know what gem someone might find in their attic or passed down from a deceased collecting relative. If that person has no interest in collecting and want to find someone who would truly appreciate the pieces I think it's great that they come to the forum looking for buyers. Many of these people contact me by email first asking if I would be interested in buying and I direct them here. If I can help a forum member find some treasure by sending non-collectors here wanting to sell, I think it's worth it. And you never know, once they know this is a great place to find a buyer they may tell others, find more cool stuff or even get the collecting bug themselves.
Anyway, that's how I look at it.
Best regards,

After seeing your post, I went and checked the classified here and within several pages found two post entertaining highest offers. You have to actually read the post and not go by the title listing. They will not have the words "For Sale" in the title. To my way of thinking, entertaining the highest offer is the same a selling to the highest bidder. Am I missing something?

Hi, guys!

"Prost" and "zum Wohl" are interchangeable, and mean basically the same thing.

"Prost" is actually a contraction of the Latin "prosit", which means, "may it benefit (you)" or "may it help (you)". "zum Wohl" means "to (your) health".

They can be used either with beer or with wine, and also, as Sgt Schultz once said, "Don't forget the Schnapps!"

When I joined the forum, I had a flash to use that as my signature, it seemed fitting, given my background and my interest in German language, culture and history. So, my sign-off when I post became, "Prost!", or when I'm feeling bairisch, "Prost, beianand!"

Also, prost, meine Freunde!
Brad
