Trip to Nwe York Historical Society - Mark, Andreas & Larry (1 Viewer)

Happy you enjoyed your visit to NYC and the NY Historical Society Museum. Sorry I couldn't meet all of you there as I was traveling in Africa for three weeks.
This was the third diorama I collaborated on at the Museum and I enjoyed the set up and reaction from the visitors. The curator said that the young visitors loved
the diorama and they had to clean the glass rotunda every day to get off the finger prints! Next I hope to do a permanent diorama of Saratoga with JJD figures.

Using my collection to help teach young children and students about history (some adults as well) is really rewarding and I know many of our members do the same.
I am working with several great local libraries installing rotating dioramas to coincide with the lesson plans of their community schools.
Recently did Ancient Egypt with K&C figures and now doing a Northeast Woodland Indian Village and LaCrosse game with JJD figures.
Also working with a local museum, Raynham Hall in Oyster Bay Long Island, on American Revolution themed dioramas.

I hope you got to see the Historical Society's film on the history of New York City, I think its very well done.

I admit, Larry, I am rather picky when it comes to food, in particular Mediterranean dishes. So yes, I am negotiating the consistency of my pasta with the waitress and/or the Chef if available. I like mine real al dente. I also like extra garlic in my aglio e olio. Having said that, Pappardella (https://www.pappardella.com/) is a recommendation.

And thank you, Larry, for organizing the trip. If you are in the area, pay the NY Historical Society a visit. They have some really fascinating exhibitions. beyond RevWar. They highlight the exceptional influence of New York culture on the US and the whole world.

But if you are in Philadelphia, visit the Museum of the American Revolution (http://www.amrevmuseum.org/) - they have the original of GW's tent. Mark & I are considering another trip to the museum this year.

I'm not sure, but did we get to see some of those figures in progress on your bench the other year, during the symposium, Rich?

Prost!

Hi Brad,
Yes some of the Saratoga figures.....the GW figure is new as are the Rhode Island Regiment and William Lee. I am hoping that John will release a limited edition of the GW Tent.

Winter in Maine arrives early but I "might" still make it out of the drifts and ice... ^&grin

Thanks for doing this thread about our trip Larry. Your pictures turned out better than mine. I managed to get my camera fixed when I got home later that night.

It was indeed a very nice outing and I'm grateful that you were able to make it down from Maine to join Andreas and me. It's always great getting together with fellow Treefroggers and enjoying a day of history filled activity.

Maybe if Richard is still reading this thread he can answer this...……...we heard that there was going to be a 2nd diorama focusing on Washington's late war encampment. Did that ever materialize?

The second diorama was for the Battle of Saratoga but the museum didn't have the space allotted. It will be forthcoming and John is producing more Saratoga figures including the British 62nd, artillery, more colonials and more command figures.
Hopefully Burgoyne and some Hessian officers.
