I know the JJ purists - including myself - want more French-Indian War but if John ever strays this is something that I would like to see him do. In my opinion, it is one of few major lines that no toy soldier manufacturer has really covered. So many possibilities!

I'm half Greek on my father's side...I'm what they call a white Greek...

I have always had an affinity for the Greeks Wars and mythology...;)

The Trojan War...man that sounds expensive...

I wonder what a Trojan Horse would cost...

so many celebrity figures...such an epic battle at Troy...

Conte has more than "dabbled" in the Spartans and Persians at Thermopylae...

they have a beautiful line of soldiers that I have always wanted...

I bought 10 plastic Conte Spartans from Fubar at the San Antonio show and painted them...

they are wonderful figures and very easy to paint...

pretty good price too...

they even have movable arms, shields and heads to create a huge variety of different poses...

So, MIKE, Show us some painted Spartans .
I managed , one Mercenary Hoplite out of the Conte figures.
Sanded and then polished the relief off the Hoplon and then painted my own design on the shield .Was going to do a bunch with all types of shield designs, converted { or contorted} poses.Just one for now.Added to my Atlantic Greek Merc warband.

Harold...I posted them a long time ago...let me see if I can find the thread.

I can't find the thread...but it was soon after the San Antonio show...

As I look at my shoddy paint skills...I now wish I had you paint them...

MIKE..DOUG...No trojans for a while to many catch up sets to pick
up yet. 1812 BOM. QUEBEC ST.FRANCIS INDIANS
and if we get BUSHY RUN.....OOOOOOH I LOVE IT.
Bring it on JOHN JENKINS.

Manitous...I don't think John will be doing any Spartans or the Trojan War anytime soon...hahahaha....

he's got so much on his plate...

this was in a message from him the other day...

"The first 1812 US artillery set will be in production soon. I’m quite pleased with it."

"I have wanted to do some sets for the siege of Fort William Henry for a while, and have made a French mortar, which would be perfect for your display. Although it would be another project started when I still have so much to do with all the others".

food for thought....hahahaha....

Aurele...send your phone number in a PM to me...I'm gonna call you and wish you a Happy New Year...:)

I would relish the artillery sets....I'm doing a copy of Tims...aka Fishheads...artillery battery and it should be finished soon...

MIKE....The artillery for 1812 sounds really good. And the possibility
of the siege of FORT WILLIAM HENRY is awesome.
Catch you latter big guy.

I'm sure FUbar will agree there's nothing shoddy about your painting skills.

The siege of Ft. Wm. Henry would be great,But wait a few months for that.

Mike,
You don't have nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to your painting skills.Must be your Greek blood.:D

Its always good to get a hint or two about what JJ is planning. Fort William Henry (hereafter known as "FWH") artillery would be a great addition. But, I wonder what else he is planning to include in the FWH line. Not only canon and mortars in place, but how about being transported down the lakes by French batteaux? In fact French in a batteau would make a nice counterpiece to the Rangers in their whaleboat. Of course, what is the Siege of Fort William Henry without the massacre? Sick and wounded Brits and Provencials being tomahawked in their beds. Is the toy soldier world ready for that? Lines of prisoners being taken away tethered at the neck as is the prisoner in JJ's canoe? Historically accurate, but not traditional toy soldier fare. On the other hand, I would love to see JJ's interpretation of Hawkeye, Chingachgook, Uncas, Magua and, especially, Alice and Cora.

As for Ancient Greeks, I've long wondered why Romans have been made so much more often by toy soldier manufacturers. Mignot and Heyde did Ancient Greeks, but a long, long time ago. Britains Herald line included the five foot poses of Greeks which were nicely done, as well as a mounted figure which was really more Roman than Greek. But, none of those poses would fit into a phalanx. How can you play Sparta vs. Athens without phalanxes?? Atlantic back in the 70s/80s included Greeks in their plastic line; in fact made both Bronze Age as well as Iron Age Greeks. (Not to mention a Trojan Horse and a Cyclops to menace Ulysses). The Bronze Age Greeks were sold as "Trojans." I always thought that to be a marketing mistake as how many little boys could get away with asking their parents, when visiting a hobby store circa 1980, that they needed a box of Trojans?

But, until Conte issued his Spartans the toy soldier world really didn't have much to choose from in the way of Greeks other than those mentioned above.

I would like to see him Harold...you once told me that you reduced some really cool images and pasted them on flags or shields...I don't remember...but I would like to see your hand painted one.

I like your ideas Marc...those are some pretty graphic images, like you say, not in the norm of the toy soldier world...but John has done scalping sets...and several prisoner sets...I suggested a Sussana Johnson and family captive of the Abenakis set a few months ago to him...but heard nothing else about it.

He is always open to suggestions...so send him an email...I don't think he would start a Fort William Henry series right now though...but you may give him some interesting ideas that appeal to him.

Mike, I don't have an image of the Conte Merc. But your reminding me of the paper shield design I used on the Carthaginian's is an idea I hadn't considered with the Spartans. It's been about a year since I did any Greek's so I hadn't thought of it.

I'll keep that in mind next time I want to work on some Ancients.HOP(OG_V)2.jpg

These images are for 25/8mm wargames figures. I used them as reference for painting Mercenary Hoplite. They are copyrighted ! I thought you might appreciate the referance.
Mostly I just used the wreath design.
Keep painting!!! I know, it's hard sometimes. I'm struggling with simple Civil War figs. I manage to get paint on a bunch, finish one here, one there.
Painting more complex troops is a chore lately!

Harold...those are great looking covers for shields...you have reduced them to a perfect size and the detail is still very clear...so clever...the possibilities are endless.

Although not Trojan War imagine JJ producing a dio with some guys like this one:

THAT is an incredible figure!

If John did a line of Greek city States, Athenians, Thebes, Sparta etc, I would be in big trouble.Trojan war, Not so much.A friend and I bought up a large collection of 28mm Trojan wars metal figs some years ago for a song at a convention. Scads of different figures, all the hero's and personalities, chariots, the works.Neither of us have had the inspiration to paint any!

Heres a pic I have posted before. Plastic Atlantic Greeks and Trojans converted with BMC Heads and shields. BIG figures, 60-65mm but formed in their own unit along side Conte Greeks they fit well.I think i have another 6-8 Atlantic stock poses primed and ready, and waiting for a year or 2 , to be painted.
