Trojan War (1 Viewer)

Troy existed as they have found the city , Europe not Africa, and Myths and True are mixed in ancient history, they were Not African

By the way guys this series [h=3]Helen of Troy (TV Mini-Series 2003)[/h]

is more the story and nationality of that part of the world, not the fanciful BBC series , so hopefully JJ with stick the beautiful Blond Greek Helen, not African, this has nothing to do with race, these stories been around for centuries so stick it , , nothing worse when attempts are made to change history, like in the US banning the confederate flag, why, its history right or wrong, and now I see on the news I believe somewhere in the US Native Americans want the conquistador statues removed.

Anyhow enough venting, JJ is one of the best out there and continues to amaze us all,

The site of Hisarlik, in northwest Turkey, has been identified as being Troy since ancient times.

which was Greece centuries before Turkey

Although we can't get too many, Dad & I intend to buy a few vignette combats of heroes from this range.
We are forgoing El Cid (which I more than once suggested to any manufacturer willing) and Wellington in India, as well (which I suggested to our Anglo-Texan-Wisco-Cali-Canadian Trophy dealers many times long ago) because we are no longer in the heyday of collecting.
Still- can't miss this.
Knowing JJD they will probably do cool full groups of men as well as individual figures regardless of the range.
Best wishes & Happy collecting and don't mention the the early Reconquista of Spain or British Napoleonic India and especially not Republican Rome vs. Carthage unless you want to send me some free figs^&grin;).
But seriously now, here's to fair dealing John Jenkins Designs for everything he and his crew do for the Hobby.
Thanks!:salute::

I agree Trev. I would love to know when we are going to start to see this range. I assume they won't be released in 2021.

I received a very pleasant surprise phone call from Mr Jenkins a few days ago. In the course of our conversation John touched on (amongst other things) the Trojan War. Of course nothing is for sure but he is hoping to schedule the first releases for September this year.

It will be "quite an extensive series" and I asked a couple of specific questions - Helen will be included :) - and - the Wooden horse ^&grin

He also kindly recommended the David Gemmell Troy trilogy to me. I am now reading the first book 'Lord of the Silver Bow' and am hooked.

It looks like John has managed to reel me back in (yet) again .........

I liked the series focused on Odysseus by Glyn Iliffe.

I thought the BBC series was surprisingly good in terms of the storyline and acting. It was certainly more faithful to the original myths than most. The actor who played Achilles was outstanding. Given that the whole story is based on myths, I find it hard to get hung up on historical accuracy. If there ever was an "Achilles" I'm sure he didn't look anything like Brad Pitt either.

I agree, the storyline in the BBC series followed more what i was taught in my Latin and Classics classes. It was more realistic that the crass Marvelised Brad Pitt film, which had massive historical inaccuracies and bending of history, it was basically a film with as much blood and gore they could get away with and hollywood male stars topless for people to swoon over. It was a film not a history lesson, i dread to think that people are taking their history from these films, such as Troy and for example U-571, where the Americans captured the enigma machine. I remember seeing a news clip from the US Mid-west when the Titantic film was released, they were talking to you college aged people and many did not know it was an actual historical event. I dispair.

The film industry has a history of mashing up history and spewing out awful nonesense, look at the Battle of the Bulge film.

I saw Troy in the theaters years ago with my brother… Upon walking out, we both said we wanted those three hours of our lives back! The only redeeming part of the movie (for me) was the Aeneas cameo at the very end.

Anyways, the Iliad and the Odyssey (the actual epic poems) are two of my favorite works of literature. It’s awesome John is considering a Trojan War line and while I may not collect it (I’ve got to keep my collecting themes focused where they are as otherwise I’d go into massive debt) I’d probably get a Trojan Horse model to display on a shelf for the novelty of it 😎

The big question for me is whether the John's Trojan War line will depict individual vignettes (i.e. Hector and Achilles duel) or one giant battle (i.e. fall of Troy). Either way I'm looking forward to this one. So many great possibilities and personalities.

I've read the first book and a half of David Gemmell's Troy trilogy. It's entertaining historical fiction but I don't believe Bill Shakespeare has anything to worry about! LOL. Gemmell died before finishing the last book but his wife finished it. So many great personalities. I can't wait for John to start rolling them out.

You made a very good point. Other than unaffordable Russian sets and small flats, I can find no one who made Achilles dragging Hector around Troy.
