Completely true. I don't think anyone knows more than you do. We'd be in trouble without you. No joke.

Thank you so much!!!

Dear Martyn,

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide descriptions for the Trophy of Wales sets I had been unable to identify. They have now been identified thanks to you. I have some pictures of my collection which I will try to find and post.

But I can tell you that I have been collecting for over 30 years. My children and grandchildren, however, are not interested in the hobby, and since I am the only one with some knowledge as to what my holdings are worth, I decided to sell them now and spare them saddled with hundreds of pounds of lead and the risk of being taken advantage of.

I specialized in British colonial history. My Durbar holdings are extensive. I have, for instance, the Britain’s Delhi Diorama in mint condition (I couldn’t find a curio cabinet large enough to accommodate it). And two Rorke’s Drift Dioramas in their original boxes. I have at least 70 Durbar (Marlborough) items, as well as close to that many Beau Geste sets. The Beau Geste Rewa carriage pulled by four elephants was privately commissioned by me and my set is the first one they manufactured; the set is now out of production as the molds broke. I also have a couple of unique Beau Geste sets, likewise privately commissioned: a Narsingarh elephant with a boy standing astride the tusks, a Jodhpur palki (palanquin) made from a photograph I took at the Jodhpur palki museum, and a Jaisalmer standard bearer that goes with the Jaisalmer parasol holders I also had privately commissioned but which Beau Geste later included in their line.

Imperial is well represented, of course. I have the two wooden-box sets of the Black Watch in Egypt, as well as close to 50 sets of the Zulu Wars, Egypt and the Sudan.

I have Britain’s galore, and Trophy of Wales. My Trophy of Wales Boxer Rebellion collection is extensive and includes the Peking Gate Diorama. There are lots from All the Queen’s Men, Wm. Hocker, The East of India Company, Frontline Figures, Little Legion, King and Country, Somerset, St. George’s Cross (Russian Civil War regiments), Alymer (with quite a few sets dealing with the 1898 Spanish-American War and the 1936-39 Spanish Civil war). There are numerous sets from Tradition, including 34 high-quality force-pained figurines of officers from different Indian Princely States. There are at least 10 sets of WWI Turkish soldiers from different manufacturers.

I am in the process of packing the soldiers in their original boxes (which I have kept all these years against this day) and preparing an inventory. I will turn them over to Old Toy Soldier this month to be sold to the highest bidder in 2016. I anticipate there will be 18 heavy duty shipping boxes, 22” x 22” x 22½”, so you can have an idea of what will be up for sale.

Again, thank you very much for your assistance. Regards, Nelson.
