I thought the factory pose looked like he should be rowing a raft using the butt of his rifle as a paddle .
But that conversion works well holding the flag

REALLY REALLY GOOD! Great grass!

The figure is useful for digging under fire or holding a ramrod or hand spike.

My one gripe with that figure is the infantry musket in the hands of a US cavalry/artilleryman. (it's possible but not common) It can make a pretty good Confederate Infantryman in a shell jacket if you remove all the piping. There's so many better things to put in the figure's hand. Mr UKREB's figure shows that. I'm glad the TSSD figures are so easy to convert.

This Particular TSSD Pose Is One of My Favorites.
It Provides many Conversion possibilities.
I Combined The Lower Torso with a Conte GI
To Make a Wounded Pacific Marine.

I've combined a few WW II TSSD figures with CW figures. The straight legged pants (boots not tucked in) on the Marines work for CW as do the straight legged pants on the CW with the marine. The boot/leggings on the WWII figures can become gaiters on the CW figures with a little work.

Your combinations of ww2 and acw sound interesting.
Please, post a picture or two.

Here's a couple I just shot. I'm still in awe of the internet and digital cameras.

You'll see I just paint these figures in one color at the moment.

Using the legs is brilliant.
I have many many USMC legs that I can now use.
Thanksmuch

A suggestion. Blunt the creases that are cast on the WW II trousers. They didn't press pants like that in the 1860s.

Scott, you mentioned that the cavalry figures are molded with an infantry musket--could it be cut down enough to represent a carbine accurately?

Prost!
Brad

It sure could. One could make the 2-band Enfield which I think NB Forest's men carried. One could cut out a carbine from the other cav. figures and insert it in the hands.
I have some reservations on details of the Union TDDS figures, BUT they are so darn good for faces, poses, casting quality, and ease of conversion and painting...and the price.

The newest sets are really good for Artillery and Dismounted Cavalry on both sides.

Can't argue the price. I have been watching the conversions here for awhile. Right now the Toy Soldier Room is taking shape. I hope to find my figures and start doing some painting soon.
